Leroy G. Perkins

WATERVILLE-Leroy Perkins passed away September 14, 2025, at the Woodlawn Nursing home in Skowhegan, Maine, following a long illness.
Leroy was predeceased by his parents, Byron and Georgia Perkins; and his brother, Craig Perkins.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Perkins; his children: Brian Perkins, Cherie and Django Bliss, Sonja and David Mauro, William and Ania Bingham, Charles Bingham, and Sharon Bingham; grandchildren: Jeromy and Montana Bingham, Caleb and Lena Mauro, Diana and Jonathan Scott, Jeremy Davis and Shawna Moulton; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sandra Taylor.
Leroy worked with his father, Byron, in the family wood lot all through high school. Later, he was hired as a supervisor in several woolen mills in Maine, New Hampshire, and New York. He purchased a laundry and drycleaning business in Dexter, Maine, and named it Perkins Laundry and Drycleaning. He enjoyed helping troubled youth so he hired young people who were referred to him by the Dexter High School administration. His encouragement and interest in them helped them succeed in school.
He married Diana and together they worked for the State of Maine for many years. Diana worked for Dept. of Environmental Protection and Leroy worked for Dept. of Labor. They became pastors of Canaan Union Church in Canaan, Maine, and during this time they developed a prison ministry.
Leroy was well known for his love of Christmas. He planned parties for co-workers at his home and for many years enjoyed the fellowship of singing old time Christmas carols, games, pranks, and great food. He loved his co-workers and those times of entertainment are precious memories.
He will be remembered for his love of children, his patience and sweet disposition, and his hard work. He also will be thought of for dressing in starched shirts, dress pants, neckties, and suspenders.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2025, at Power Source Ministries, 63 Abbott Hill Road, Dexter, following the regular worship service which starts at 10 a.m. All are welcome. Please join us as Leroy loved attending this church.
