Les Postma

Leslie "Les" Postma, age 88, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the beautiful, sunny, Sunday morning of March 1, 2026. He was born in Sumas, Washington to John and Grace (Staal) Postma on December 27, 1937. Les married Helen DeVries in Sumas on May 22, 1956. Les and Helen grew up together, both attending the Sumas Christian School and the Sumas CRC. They were married just shy of 70 years.

Shortly after their marriage, Les and Helen purchased his father's farm and twenty milking cows. Side by side, they grew both their farm and their family. Les retired in 2006 and he and Helen moved up to the hill overlooking the valley. They retired, but not really. Both Les and Helen continued to help on the family farm by mowing and raking the grass crops. Les visited the farm every day and enjoyed working with his boys.

Family fishing trips to Canada were taken once a year. It was a nice break from the cows and was always an adventure. Grandma Grace and Winnie often joined in on the family fishing fun.

Les enjoyed taking yearly antique tractor scouting trips with his brothers. They would head to Saskatchewan, the gooseneck trailer that Les built in tow, hoping to find an antique or two to haul back home to the farm shop. He and his brothers spent many hours together restoring tractors.

Les was both a deacon and an elder at the Sumas CRC, was a Sumas Christian School board member and was a member of the Sumas Water Board for 50 years.

Les is survived by his wife Helen Postma, children Doreen (Gary) Vermeulen, Ron (Nancy) Postma, Rob Postma, Dean (Tami) Postma, and Sherilyn (Dale) Lankhaar; 12 Grandchildren, 16 Great Grandchildren with two more on the way, and one Great-Great-Grandson. He will be greatly missed by his sister Sharon Hogan. Les is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Alvin Postma and Charles Postma.

In honor of Les, visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gillies Funeral Home. The graveside committal will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 12th at Sumas Cemetery followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Sumas Christian Reformed Church.
