Leslie Bomstad

On November 1, 2023, Leslie Ernest Bomstad died in Minot, ND after a short battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.
Les was born on July 20, 1954 to Ernest and Mavis (Hanson) Bomstad in Kenmare, ND. He was raised on the family farm in Palermo, ND with brother Terry and sisters Cindy and Bonnie. He graduated from Palermo High School in 1973.
After high school Les worked various jobs around the area, but two stick out and really shaped the way his life would go. Les farmed the family land for many years with his dad, Ernie. Eventually, Les moved his own home onto the farm to be closer to the action and lived in "the big white farmhouse" for several years.
Les started a career in road construction with Neshem-Peterson, which is presently known as Gratech out of Berthold, ND. Through his years at Gratech he learned many skills that would carry over to his own trucking company. For the last 18 years Les owned and operated Bummers Trucking in the Palermo/Stanley area. He retired July 1, 2023.
In April 1982 Les' daughter Annie was born. She had her dad wrapped around her finger from the very beginning. As a little girl, Annie was her dad's shadow, from getting dirty and greasy on the farm or riding for many hours in the tractor and combine. Annie got her dad's blue eyes, inherited his eye roll, and his laid-back go with the flow personality. He was only a phone call away and was always there when she needed him.
Twenty-five years ago, Les met Patricia Grinolds in Stanley, ND. Their love for each other and the willingness to care for each other is the definition of true companionship. They made each other's lives better. With Pat came an extension of family who Les loved and cared for deeply.
Through the years Les has formed many lasting friendships, whether personal or professional. His loyalty, generosity with both time and knowledge, his passion for doing a job once and getting it downright the first time, and sense of humor will be missed by all.
His loving family includes: longtime companion Patricia Grinolds; daughter Annie (Charles) Miller, grandchildren: Gannon (Nya) Miller and their daughter Linkyn, Mauleigh Miller, Asher Miller, step-sons: James (Kim) Lockhart, Steve Lockhart; Kelseye (James) Ethen and their children Rylan and Everly, Tate Lockhart, Alex Giese, Jacqueline Lockhart, Clayton Lockhart and daughter Lucille, Azen Lockhart, Alexis Deaton; siblings: Terry (Mona) Bomstad, Bonnie Oberg, Cindy (Cam) Bartuska; Pat's family whom he cherished as his own DuWayne (Jen Alvstad) Grinolds and their daughter Lexi, Carmen (Wes) Peck and their children Erin and Meghan, Dawn (Joe) Kriewald and their children Jaxon and Payton; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law Darrell Oberg.
A celebration of Bummer's life will take place on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 1 until 3 pm at the The Pines in Stanley, ND, located at 440 Reservoir Road, Stanley, ND.
