Leslie Carson Colburn died peacefully on November 6, 2025 in The Woodlands, TX after a brief illness. Leslie was born on December 21,1948 in Princeton, NJ, the first born daughter to Ethel and Marlin Carson. Leslie grew up on her family's farm in Cranbury, NJ with her sisters Marilyn and Nancy and her brother Jim. In 1966, Leslie's family bought a farm in Bridgeton, NJ, and Leslie graduated from Bridgeton High School in1967. After graduation, Leslie attended The University of New Hampshire, where she met Edward J.Colburn. Leslie studied medical technology at UNH and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1971 (while Ed was stationed there in the United States Navy). After the end of Ed's enlistment, the two moved to New Boston, NH, Ed's hometown. Though their relationship was not permanent, the couple raised two children, Kevin and Sara, together for the next 14 years in New Boston. Leslie later moved first to Oswego NY and then onto Oneida and Sherill, NY, where she was School Business Administrator for those three School Districts in NY for 13 years.
In addition to her time as a school business administrator, Leslie was proficient in many different careers. At the beginning of her life, she was a hospital laboratory technician at St Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH, and often volunteered at local Red Cross blood drives in the southern NH area. She was also an entrepreneur, starting her own outdoor clothing business in the mid 1980's which featured ski clothing in plus sizes for women. She earned her MBA from Southern New Hampshire University in 1984, and later received an Advanced Certificate in School Business Administration from SUNY, Brockport. She also served as a notary public, a tax preparation professional and a One Stroke painting instructor.
Leslie enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafting, and spent most of her free time in her retirement creating beautiful works of art with fabrics. She was an active member of the The Woodlands Area Quilt Guild. She was forever searching for the next project, the perfect fabric, and the best new gadget to make her hobby that much more enjoyable. She also enjoyed singing in local choral groups throughout her life. She made so many wonderful friends through her quilting and choral interests.
Leslie was predeceased by her parents, Marlin and Ethel Carson of Bridgeton, NJ, her sister, Marily Carson of Vineland, NJ. She is survived by her son, Kevin E. Colburn and Daughter-In -Law, Lisa Colburn and their children Abigail Colburn and Joshua Colburn and her daughter, Sara Colburn Haiss and Son-In-Law, Timothy Haiss and their children Carly McCabe, Finnegan McCabe, Maebelline Haiss and Kodiak Haiss. Leslie is also survived by her sister Nancy Burbeck of Bradenton, FL, and her brother, Jim Carson of Blountville, TN. Leslie also leaves behind her lifelong friends, Irene Graveline of Austin TX, and Bea Angus of Oneida, NY, along with many other cherished neighbors and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, 11:00am at The Bridge at Stonebridge Church, 1 Stonebridge Church Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77382. We will celebrate her joyful spirit with the same warmth she shared with all of us.
