Leslie Hackman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home on Aug. 3, 2024.
On August 1, 2024, Leslie Hackman passed away at the age of 54. God, His choir of angels and her father Bernard welcomed her home. Married for 28 years, Jeff and Leslie raised their three dear children Sarah, Brian, and Megan in Island Lake, Illinois. Leslie is survived by her mother Maryann, husband, children, siblings, extended family, countless friends, and the light of her life-her grandson!
Leslie loved all things lemon, playing tennis, fishing, dancing, traveling, and singing praise in the car while driving around the Midwest for tennis tournaments. Above all else, providing for her children and spending time with family and friends were her highest joys.
Leslie came from creative roots, always looking for ways to be crafty. She would paint pottery, assemble seashell vases, design logos for family trips, and create customized gifts for her loved ones. She always found a way to touch the lives of others. She was very excited to pass along the gift of creativity to her kids.
Despite living with stage four cancer for seven years and enduring countless scans, procedures and chemotherapy treatments she lived joyfully, always managing to put a smile on the faces of others. Leslie cared deeply for others battling this disease and created heartwarming handmade gifts for her fellow infusion center patients and nurses. She was a strong advocate for patient comfort while receiving treatments. Despite her diagnosis, she made others feel important and special. We are better people because of our dearest Leslie.
She was a constant source of joy and inspiration. She was the heart and soul of the family and words cannot describe the hole left in our hearts. She will be dearly missed.
Leslie will be buried at a private ceremony, but please join us for a Celebration of her life! It will be an open house format held on Tuesday August 6th from 4pm-8pm at Westridge Banquets, 628 E. State Road, Island Lake Illinois. Please bring a favorite memory that can be written into her remembrance book.

Our NIU friend group has many wonderful memories with Leslie over the years! Here are just a few!

My first memory of Leslie was her smile and laugh!! She was so fun, and silly and full of joy! Myself and our three other roommates shared a magical year of living together at NIU. We laughed, sang, cried, and shared our hopes and dreams with each other. We especially enjoyed singing hymns in our apartment kitchen, pretending her hair was our hair (wish I could find those pics), and just being generally silly! We kept in touch in our early adult lives after graduation, attending each other´s weddings and celebrating the births of our respective children. But, as many can attest, life got busy for us all and our get together opportunities were limited. However, we could always pick up where we left off and Leslie´s diagnosis brought us all back together again! She demonstrated to us all her continued hope, joy, and perseverance as she bravely fought, and fiercely faced each challenge that came her way! Her joy was solely rooted in her family and she made sure to cherish every opportunity to spend with them! She was a proud mother, wife, sister, daughter, aunt and grandmother! We loved her and I will miss the breakfasts we met up for, the many texts and photos we shared and the joy she always shared with me! I will cherish the gifts she so generously gave, and the memories will live on in my heart!
