Leslie Don Hancock began to rejoice in heaven with his mother and father on the morning of August 18, 2023, after a tough health battle. He is walking and talking with family and friends and praising God today.
Les was born on January 28, 1958, in Seagraves to Donald and Anita Hancock. He was their firstborn son. He was raised in Wellman and Brownfield. He accepted Jesus into his heart at the Wellman Baptist Church during his youth. As a teenager, he went on mission trips to Mexico to teach Vacation Bible School.
He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1976. He also attended South Plains College in Levelland. He was retired from farming at the time of his passing.
Les was very talented in so many ways. He was one of the best at everything he tried. He was an unmatched marksman. He also was skilled as a mechanic, electrician, artist, singer, pianist, truck driver, fisherman, and hunter. He actually won a local talent show in 1972, playing "Spanish Eyes" on the piano.
Les prided himself on keeping up with current events throughout his life. He drove his tractor to Washington D.C. as a part of the American Ag Movement in 1979, to bring light to the problems facing American Farmers. He continued to stay politically aware, often writing letters to the editor on various subjects.
He also enjoyed Antique Tractor Pulls and working on antique tractors. He often drove these antique tractors in local parades.
Les was preceded in death by his parents, Anita and Donald Hancock.
He is survived by his four children, Donald Jason (Kimberly) of Abilene, Bobby Logan (Christian) of McKinney, Luke Dylan of Brownfield, and Laci Dawn Hickson (Jerry) of Brownfield. He also leaves his 7 grandchildren: McKynsie, Rylan, Porter, Wyatt, and Evan Hancock, and Dylan and Dawnleigh Hickson.
He is also survived by sister Kristi Sue and husband Gregg Phillips, and brother Timothy Dan and wife Lesa. Also, Linda Thompson, and many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who always enjoyed time with Les.
A memorial service for Les will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Brownfield. A time of visiting with the family will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Garrett Hall of First Christian Church, prior to the service.
Instead of flowers, Les requested that memorials be sent to Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or the Wounded Warriors Project.
