Lestly Bowen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald Funeral Home, Inc. - Lewis County on Mar. 11, 2026.
Lestly Charles "LC" Bowen, age 79, of Hohenwald, Tennessee, passed away at his home on March 11, 2026. He was born on Cedar Creek in a corn crib on November 15, 1946, to the late Lester Bowen and Vannie Haynes Bowen, and was later raised in Flatwoods, Tennessee.

LC was a graduate of the Perry County High School Class of 1965. Following graduation, he attended Tennessee Vocational School. On February 21, 1969, he married the love of his life, Wilma Lomax Bowen. Their marriage was a devoted and loving union that lasted 57 years, a life they built together centered on faith, family, and hard work.

LC proudly served his country as a member of the Tennessee National Guard for 13 years. He worked at DANA Corporation for six years and later worked with Wallace Poore repairing televisions. In 1977, he ventured out on his own and opened Bowen TV. The business later expanded and became Bowen Home Center, where he sold home furniture, appliances, and televisions. This year would have marked 49 years of business, a testament to his dedication and commitment to serving his community.

LC was a forward thinker and entrepreneur. He was among the first in the area to sell and service large satellite television systems and was also among the first locally to rent movies through a movie club when VCRs first became popular. Known for his knowledge and determination, LC researched everything and made sure he understood how to work on and service every product he sold. Whatever he pursued, he gave it his full effort. His strong work ethic kept him active in his business up until the time of his passing.

Through his years in business, LC developed many lasting friendships and truly enjoyed getting to know the people he served. He often said he had made many good friends through his business and enjoyed getting to know all the people he did business with. He was a wonderful, loving, kind, and giving person.

Above all, LC cherished his family. He especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Though he carried many titles in life, his favorite was simply "PA." In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and spending time gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Bowen; his son, Bruce Bowen; his daughter, Renae (Greg) Mumaw; his sisters, Brenda (Robert) Treadwell and Peggy French; three grandchildren, Kaci (Ryan) Shanes, Blake (Kaylie) Bowen, and Brayden Mumaw; and three great-grandchildren, Piper and Gentry Shanes and Blaine Bowen, along with many special friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Dicus, Jewel Powers, and Diane Gay.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, March 13, from 10:30 AM until 3:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM, with burial to immediately follow in Swiss Cemetery.

McDonald Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Bowen family.

Lc was a fantastic man. He was very special and he had a very special way of making me feel important whenever I went to the store. I always thought so much of him and his family and I´m so grateful to have been able to call him my friend. I pray the Lord gives Wilma and the rest of the family, strength and peace.
