Letitia "Letty" LaFountain

Letitia "Letty" LaFountain joined her husband on September 18, 2024.
She was born August 2, 1933 at the family homestead in Goshen NH. She was the daughter of Ivan and Ruth (Robertson) Scranton.
On March 3, 1951, she married Gerald "Jerry" LaFountain, and they shared their home on Union Street in Newport until his death. They were blessed with 57 years together. The LaFountains had two children, their son Dwight LaFountain, his wife Pamela (Hague) LaFountain of Newport, NH and their daughter Laurel (LaFountain) Smith and her husband Edward Smith of Charlestown, NH. Her grandsons are Dwight Smith of North Walpole, NH, Cory Smith of Antrim, NH, Kyle LaFountain of Merrimack, NH, and Bryan LaFountain of Newport, NH. Her great granddaughters, Olivia Smith and Isabella Smith are from North Walpole, NH. Her surviving sisters are Janet (Scranton) Berget, of Swanzey, NH and Sandra (Scranton) Woods of Sunapee, NH. Letty also had many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Letitia is predeceased by Richard Scranton, Edna (Scranton) Burrows, Robert Scranton, Susan (Scranton) Davis, along with her parents. Letty also lost her nearest and dearest friend, Lois Stevens, this spring.
Letty attended a one room schoolhouse in Goshen, NH where a student was chosen daily to do required chores, including preparing the meal for the entire class and tending the fire. Later in her life, Letty became a lunch lady for many years at the Richards School in Newport, NH.
Letty attended the First Baptist Church in Newport, NH. She was a member of The Eastern Star, and worked on such projects as the Church Mission Committee, The March of Dimes, and the Heart Association. She also was a volunteer at Fort #4 in Charlestown, NH.
Letty had a love of reading and attending book clubs. She was an avid gardener and talented cook. She and her husband, Jerry, were often on their pontoon boat surrounded by friends, enjoying the scenery, a good meal, and each other's company. They traveled many road trips to Maine, Canada, North Carolina, and Florida. Their all-time favorite gathering was when all their children with spouses, and the grandchildren joined them for a summer week in Pemaquid, Maine. This is where the tradition of a themed party with skits and a Yankee Swap started and lasted for decades.
Another valued tradition was the annual Christmas Eve dinner at their home where family members and guests were treated to her Lobster Newberg and homemade cookies. The evening ended with Letty playing traditional Christmas Hymns on the organ which always lead up to the finale of the four grandsons acting out a lively rendition of "Grandma got run over by a reindeer!"
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, September 27, 2024 at The First Baptist Church, Newport, NH. Burial to follow at Mill Village Cemetery, Goshen, NH. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the First Baptist Church, Newport, NH, or a charity of your choice in her name.
