Leverne Baskin Obituary
Leverne (Al) Baskin, affectionately known as "Smooth," a beloved resident of Myrtle Beach, SC, peacefully departed this life on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Born on November 14, 1949, in Jacksonville, Florida, Leverne was the youngest son of eleven children of the late Louis and Annie Mae Baskin. Leverne was preceded in death by his oldest brother Emery Baskin, his sister Everlena Baskin, and his son Stanley Hardeman.
Leverne was a proud graduate of Matthew W. Gilbert High School, Class of 1968. Leverne went on to serve his country with honor, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1969. He retired after 22 years of distinguished military service.
Following his military career, Leverne continued to serve his community through law enforcement, working with the Myrtle Beach Police Department in Myrtle Beach, SC, from 1991 until his retirement in 2013-dedicating another 22 years to the safety and wellbeing of others.
Leverne lived a full and vibrant life, sharing 45 glorious years of marriage with the love of his life, Ramona Baskin. Together, they enjoyed traveling the world, often in the company of dear friends, The Osbornes and The Cogdells. From Alaska to Europe to the Caribbean, their adventures created lasting memories.
Leverne attended area churches, including Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, on various occasions. He continued to reflect his love of Jesus through service.
A man who deeply valued fellowship, unity, and service, Leverne's favorite scripture was: "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" – Psalm 133:1.
He lived by these words, always welcoming others with open arms and an open heart.
Leverne was an active member of the Good Time Social Club, where he helped organize community events such as back-to-school drives and scholarship programs for deserving students. He was also a passionate pool and dominoes player-always ready for a friendly challenge and rarely backing down.
