Levita Sheffield Shuman, 72, born September 4, 1953 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Chester and Cornelia Sheffield, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025 at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Levita was a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister and friend. She served God her entire life. This was exemplified by the way she worshipped, enjoyed singing, and also the way she treated others. She never met a stranger and always wanted everyone she came in contact with to feel special and loved.
Levita enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She also was a great cook, always wanting to share new dishes with her family. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens, as well as going on camping trips with her husband.
She was a 1971 BCHS graduate and was employed at Claxton Manufacturing, Bryan Oil Company and the Pembroke Seniors Center. Most rewarding was when she left the work force to take care of her grandchildren.
Levita is survived by her husband of 53 years, Roy Shuman, son and daughter in law, Roy "Chip" and Letitia Shuman, grandchildren, Zoee, Tessa, Madi and Gavin Shuman, sisters Ann Sheffield, Vanassa (Bill) Collins, Margaret (Glenn) Collins, Vivian (Billy) Myers, brother Chester Sheffield and sister in law and brother in law Dell and Howard Shuman. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased in death by her special niece, Danielle Collins and sister in law Laura Sheffield.
Visitation for Levita will be held on Friday, October 3 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Flanders Powell Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Flanders Powell Funeral Home, with Doctor Lawrence Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chester Sheffield, Joey Collins, Jesse Collins, Dylan Williams, Peyton Williams and Jerry Powell.
