Lewis "Pop" DiCecco
March 12, 1939 April 17, 2025
Lewis DiCecco, affectionately known as "Pop," passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the age of 86
in Fresno, California. A true warrior to the very end, Lewis faced his illness with the same strength and
determination that defined his remarkable life.
Born on March 12, 1939, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Lucy and Albert DiCecco, Lewis carried a deep
passion for learning and a zest for life. Known to many as "Mr. Science," he amazed those around him
with his vast knowledge of the world. His curiosity and intellect were matched only by his deep love for
family and his unshakable spirit.
In 1962, Lewis relocated to California with the dream of building a better life for his loved ones. He
became a world-renowned mushroom farmer and successful business owner, earning respect and
admiration in his field. Throughout his life, Lewis wore many hatsliterally and figuratively. From pilot to
barber, from devoted family man to musicianhe lived with purpose, creativity, and boundless energy.
For 65 beautiful years, Lewis was married to the love of his life, Johanna. Together they built a life full of
laughter, love, and devotion. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Celeste Pistoresi and Jennifer
Luevano, and found great joy in watching them build families of their own. He deeply loved and respected
his sons-in-law, Michael Pistoresi and Tony Luevano, embracing them as his own and valuing the bond
they shared as family.
His greatest joy came from being "Pop" to his grandchildren: Stephen and Nadia Pistoresi, Samantha &
Nicholas Manfredi, Michael McConnon, Jay Luevano, and Justin Luevano. In 2024, his heart grew even
fuller with the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Violet Marie Manfredi a moment he cherished with
immense pride and joy.
Later in life, Lewis perfected the art of being an incredible chef and baker. His homemade pizzas,
fresh-baked breads, and legendary cinnamon buns brought people together and filled his home with
irresistible warmth and joy. Cooking became yet another way he expressed his love always sharing,
always giving.
Lewis was deeply rooted in his faith, which remained a guiding light throughout his life. He especially
cherished the teachings of St. Jude’s, the patron saint of hope and impossible causes, drawing strength
and comfort from his devotion in both joyful and challenging times.
He was also profoundly grateful for the exceptional care he received throughout his illness. He and his
family extend heartfelt appreciation to his healthcare team, who treated him with the utmost respect,
dignity, and compassion. Their kindness brought him comfort and strength during his most difficult days.
At the time of his passing, Lewis was surrounded by the unwavering love of his wife Johanna and his two
daughters, Celeste and Jennifer, who were at his bedside a final moment of peace and togetherness
that reflected the deep bond they shared throughout his life.
Lewis never stopped believing he would return to the things he once loved most. His optimism, even in
the face of adversity, inspired everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience,
faith, and endless curiosity.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
