Lewis Evans "Pete" Hartman Jr., 90, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He was married to the late Patricia Ann Hartman for 55 years.

Born on March 5, 1935, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Pete was the son of Lewis Evans Hartman Sr. and Catherine Hartman. He was raised with a strong sense of family, tradition and integrity-values that remained central to his life.

Pete attended Woodberry Forest School in Virginia and went on to study at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he majored in history. While at W&L, he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, forging lifelong friendships and memories.

Before settling into civilian life, Pete served in the United States Navy.

After college and the Navy, Pete became a pilot, as flying was his passion. From the cockpit, Pete was gifted a view of the world most can only dream of-a space between Heaven and Earth that few ever truly come to know.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Hartman of Michigan.

A devoted father, Pete is survived by his six children: Evans Hartman, Tom Hartman and wife, Antje; Mark Hartman, Elizabeth Hartman-Loyd and husband, Barry; Stephen Hartman and wife, Stephanie; and Dorothy "Dardee" Hartman Grenouillat and husband, Fabrice. He was a loving grandfather to Lexi Adcock (Andrew), Megan Johnson-Jeremiah (Derek), Hannah Caples (Brett), Skylar Jauregui (Osiris), Jaden Johnson (Kylie), Garrison Brimhall, Raya Malone (Hunter), Matthew Roberts (Bella) and Clara Hartman. Pete was also a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren.

Pete is also survived by his beloved sister, Dorothy "Dardee" Meyers (Barry); childhood best friend, Ned Grove; his loyal canine companion, Sage and many extended family members who will miss him deeply.

He will especially be missed by his Bichon Frise, Sage, who will be cared for by his daughter, Dardee.

Pete will be remembered for his wit, wisdom, unwavering love for his family and his deep appreciation for history, tradition and a good conversation. His legacy lives on in the lives of those he cherished most.

The family offers heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers of Cleburne County Meals on Wheels. Their wonderful service and commitment to delivering meals to the homebound and those in need were a true blessing to Dad and our family.

A private celebration of Pete's life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cleburne County Humane Society in memory of Lewis "Pete" Hartman, continuing his legacy of giving.
