Libby Carlson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Amory Funeral Home, Inc. - Yorktown on Feb. 26, 2026.
Libby Carolyn Carlson

Libby Carolyn Carlson of Yorktown, Va, peacefully passed , February 12, 2026. She was guided by her beloved late husband as they flew away together on their next journey.
She was born in South Boston, Va. to Henry and Grace Oakley. As a young girl she moved with her parents, two younger sisters and brother to Hampton Va. A couple years later the family moved to Yorktown, Va. where she graduated from York High School. After graduation she received her cosmetology license and worked as a hairdresser until she met and fell in love with her future husband, Bill. Whom they shared the same birthday. Within a year of their marriage they moved to Seattle, WA where they began their life together and started a family. After a little over ten years in Seattle the young family moved back to Yorktown, VA.
The love Libby had for her family was unconditional, devoted, and fiercely protective. Her warm care and comfort for family and friends was unwavering. Her joking nature was infectious, which was also at times mischievous. A trait she shared with her mom. She was known for her love of her favorite color, purple. Absolutely no pink allowed!
Libby was an avid gardener, almost no matter what the weather, she was outside tending to her plants, pruning or puttering around. She was a member of the York/Poquoson chapter of the Master Gardeners and volunteered, with her husband, at The American Red Cross.
Libby is survived by her three daughters, Trilby Burt (Charlie) of Richmond, Va., Melissa Whitam (Ray) of Gloucester, Va., and Heather Carlson (Matt Sexton) of Norfolk, Va., her grandchildren, Ashley Eshleman (John) of Knoxville, TN. and Bryce Hatchell of Richmond, VA. , her two younger sisters, Trilby Lynn (Phil) of Newport News, VA., Kathy Westwood of Philadelphia PA. and younger brother, Sam Oakley (Bessie) of Butner, NC. and many nieces and nephews.
Libby is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her father, Henry and her mother, Grace.
Libby will be cremated and laid to rest alongside her husband at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. In lieu of flowers please donate to The Alzheimer's Association or The American Red Cross of Southeastern Va. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, at Edgehill Community Center, 700 Cockletown Rd. Yorktown, Va. 23692, between the hours of 1pm to 3pm We invite friends to come celebrate, wear something purple if you have it and remember the beautiful woman she was.
