Lillian Clark Obituary

Published by Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory-Chester, CA FD1072 - Chester on Nov. 29, 2016.
Lillian Viola (Evanger) Clark, 89, of Lake Almanor, California, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Renown Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Born at home on the family farm on Friday, October 14, 1927, in Ward County, North Dakota, she was the eighth of ten children for Henry and Lena (Mattern) Evanger. Their family grew wheat, flax, barley, potatoes and corn, had livestock for farm work and food, and lots of home made breads and canned goods. In late 1945, the family moved to a small berry farm in between Puyallup and Tacoma, Washington. In 1946, at a dance not far from this little farm, is where she met her first husband, Loren Harmon of Hunter, North Dakota. He had just been honorably discharged from a 4 year stint as a medic in the United States Army WWII in Europe. They were married for 19 years and had two children, Dennis and Sandra. Their family moved from North Dakota to Los Gatos, California about 1951 where Loren opened up a Harmon Garage and Body Shop. Lillian was always busy with the family activities, boy scouts, girl scouts, baseball, swimming lessons, piano lessons, ballet lessons, camping, playing cards, bowling leagues, traveling every summer, and relatives and friends were always around. She was a wonderful cook and went out of her way to make sure there were always delicious meals and deserts and a warm and welcoming home for everyone. Later on, she fulfilled her lifelong ambition of going back to school at San Jose's Heald Business College. She then went to work at INA/Insurance Company of North America in San Jose, California as a bookkeeper. It was there in 1968, that she met and married her second husband, Orie Clark. Orie had three children from his previous marriage, Jeff, Gary and Ellen, so family get togethers were a large event. Orie was the associate director at INA and they would transfer to Pennsylvania and later Indiana, retiring as director of regional processing operations for Richmond Cigna after 36 years service. During their marriage, they were both avid golfers, travelers, loved fishing and gardening, bridge, poker and entertaining business associates, family and friends. Upon his retirement in 1986, they moved to Lake Almanor, California where they continued their favorite pastimes of golf, traveling, fishing, playing cards, and as always active in the country club and more. Lillian continued her love of knitting, sewing, counted cross-stitch, painting and other artwork. If you came to their home, be prepared to be entertained and fed very well! Every Christmas they would make gifts, including their special blackberry jam and and assortment of homemade candies. They both worked on all their projects together and were very thoughtful and always so helpful with all their family and friends. Orie passed away on November 29, 2015 in Reno, Nevada, and Lillian followed exactly one year later on November 29, 2016 in Reno, Nevada. He got impatient waiting for her and she missed him terribly. And so it was, on that day, they were reunited. They will both be greatly missed, but our love for them will never end. Lillian is survived by her two children, Dennis (Phylis) Harmon and Sandra Harmon; six grandchildren, JoAnna Bradley, Michelle (Richard) Sutton and Nikki Harmon, Kim (Shane) Edwards, Ben (Elaine) Southern, Heather Janson; 11 Great grandchildren, Mercedes Portillo, Samuel Bradley, Jesse Duran, Araceli Alvarado, Nicholas Alvarado, and Daniel Sutton, Samantha Edwards, Josh Edwards, Jane (Jacob) Grey, Philip Southern, Gabe Southern; 5 Great Great grandchildren, Giovanni Plaza, Sean Chavez, Loren Portillo, Jayden Marquez, and Arya Fielding; Her three step-children, Jeff (Kathy) Clark, Gary (Margo) Clark, Ellen (Bill) Stewart, six grandchildren, Ryan (Brenda) Clark, Elizabeth (Robert) Kohn, Adrienne Clark, Alex Clark, Alicia (James) Furiosi, David (Lisa) Chavez, 4 Great grandchildren, Macie Clark, Avery Kohn, Leanna Chavez and Alena Chavez. She is also survived by her dear sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy Evanger, Evelyn Johnson, Kermit and Jean Harmon and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
