Lillian Deyonne Wendlandt (nee Gilberts), age 100, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord on Monday January 13, 2025, at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire, WI.

Lillian was born in Sand Creek, WI on July 7, 1924, to Oscar and Bessie (Harstad) Gilberts. She was raised and attended grade school in Sand Creek. She attended junior high and senior high in Colfax, graduating in 1942.

After graduation, she traveled to Washington, DC where she worked for the government during World War II. In 1946, she returned home and on March 8, 1947, married Robert Wendlandt, son of Otto and Rena (Simonson) Wendlandt. They were married 56 years and raised two children on the family farm located outside of Sand Creek. Lillian also worked part time for the Farmer’s Store in Sand Creek, New Auburn and Chetek. She later worked full time for Quality Egg in Bloomer. During this time, Lillian was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she shared her love of music as organist and as choir director for many years. She also served as part-time organist for Bethel Lutheran Church and Dovre Lutheran Church, New Auburn.

She was an active member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek, where she served as choir director. She participated in the New Hope Comforter’s, Sophia Circle and WELCA organizations. She also served her community as 4-H leader for many years.

Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Her family has many wonderful memories of meals and get-togethers spent on the family farm. Some of her hobbies included playing the piano or organ for dad and family, cooking and baking, working crossword puzzles and watching game shows.

Lillian is survived by her daughter: Marian (Michael) Brasher of Eau Claire; son: David (Janice) Wendlandt of Sand Creek; five grandchildren: Michelle Brasher, Jonathan (Alisha) Wendlandt, Jordan (Crystal) Wendlandt, Janessa (Enoch) Johnson and Jamison Wendlandt; ten great-grandchildren: Immanuel, Gabriel, Grace, Elise, Carly, Isaiah, Hailey, Malakai, Noah and Eden; one sister: Donna (Arnold) Gregerson of Chewelah, WA; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Wendlandt; infant daughter: Ruth; parents: Oscar and Bessie Gilberts; sister: Ruth (Edmund) Sylte; brothers: Elmer (Agnes) Gilberts and Ernest (Agnes) Gilberts.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kahn and staff at Marshfield Medical Center in Eau Claire, the staff at Dove Healthcare West and Heartland Hospice for the excellent care and compassion they showed to our mom. The family also wishes to extend a very special “Thank you” to all who brought food, offered rides and gave support to our mom these past years. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are appreciated more than these words can express.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, on Monday, January 20, 2025, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek with Pastor Michael Sparby officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Sand Creek.
