Lily Schofield Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 19, 2025.
Lily Schofield, nee Shaw

November 22, 1935 – August 18, 2025

.

The loving family of Lily Schofield of Sorrento, Florida are deeply saddened to announce her peaceful passing on the 18th of August, 2025 at the age of 89. Lily had faced many health problems over the past decade, but from each she had risen with the grit and fortitude of the Yorkshire lass that she was, ever defeating the odds. Following a recent hospital stay during which she survived hip surgery and battled back from the ICU, she was given her ultimate wish, which was to be out of the hospital, at home, with her dog, Sadie, having a cup of tea and a slice of toast. She was blessed with these final wishes. Lily's passing at home was then quite sudden; she simply fell asleep. And though all of her children and grandchildren wish they could've had more time with her, none could have asked for a more peaceful passing for this much loved lady. She had lived a long life full of family and adventure, and she had fought a long honorable fight in recent years and was ready to let go.

.

She joins her husband of almost 50 years, Colin, who passed away in November of 2024. Together they had a lifetime of adventures, cruising to the Caribbean, Alaska, and aboard the QE 2 to their beloved England. They travelled around the US to visit their children and grandchildren throughout the years making beautiful family memories along the way.

.

Lily was born in 1935 to loving parents John William and Elsie Shaw in Leeds, England. There, she raised her four children before immigrating to Florida, US along with her husband, Colin, and her children Frances, Paul, Timothy, and Rebecca and beloved grandson Chris. She was incredibly loved and treasured by her large family. She was tiny but mighty.

.

Lily is survived by her children Frances, Paul, Timothy, and Rebecca along with their spouses John, Eva, Janet, and Timothy, Grandchildren Nicholas, Heather, Mathew, Holly, Simon, Joseph, Bregan, George, Evan and Gavin, great grandchildren Kailey, Carlye, Christopher Robin, Liam, and Henry, as well as many dear family members in both Florida, US and Leeds, England, especially her younger brother, John, with whom she and her husband shared many visits throughout the years.

.

Lily is preceded in death by her baby son Matthew, her loving parents John William and Elsie, her sister, Dorothy, her brothers Jeff and David, her beloved grandson, Chris, and her husband Colin.

.

She will be missed terribly and will live in our thoughts and hearts every day.
