Linda Autrey Obituary

New London - Linda Autrey (D'Arinzo), of New London, age 74, passed away after a brief illness Monday, Sept. 23, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents, Josephine and Vincent D'Arinzo, originally of Stamford; husband Earnest Lynn Autrey of New London; and brother Richard D'Arinzo of Stamford. Linda was devoted to her family, friends and neighbors and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

Having a keen attention to detail, Linda enjoyed a 40-year career in business administrative services, including work in the legal, defense, construction, and insurance industries. She was particularly proud of her time with Gilbane, Inc. and of her involvement with the Insurance Professionals of Eastern Connecticut (IPEC) where she gained particularly meaningful friendships.

From a young age, Linda delighted in travelling to western Europe and the Caribbean with close friends. It was on one of these trips to Bermuda where she met her future husband Lynn, who was stationed there with the U.S. Navy. After many return trips they eventually married in her hometown of Stamford on June 10, 1973. Their new family, born from the love of travel, would experience many wonderful trips back home to her native Connecticut over the years to visit family and friends. Upon retirement, Linda was once more able to visit her favorite places in Italy with her son and daughter-in-law and take trips to various Caribbean locations with her "sisters by other misters." She eventually made it back to Bermuda in June of 2023 to revisit all the places she loved in the 70s with her grateful family.

Linda was also a skilled seamstress and ceramic craftswoman, most of her creations eventually gifted or distributed amongst family and friends and all destined to be future family heirlooms. A devotee of classic Italian cuisine and baked goods of all varieties, one of her greatest joys was passing kitchen traditions on to her grandchildren and feeding her lucky friends and neighbors. Her risotto, meatballs, and brownies will be sorely missed.

Most importantly, Linda was dedicated to the health and happiness of her family. She was a patient caregiver to her mother, father, and husband in their times of need. She later transferred that love and devotion to her two beloved grandchildren, brother Richard, close cousins, fantastic in-laws, friends, and neighbors. She leaves an impossible hole to fill in the lives of too many people to mention.

Our mother, grandmother, cousin and friend's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all she touched. Whenever you get a particularly good Mani/Pedi, view a beautiful sunset, or eat a good meatball, Linda will be there. Rest in peace, Grandma. We will see you again.

Linda is survived by her son Jeffrey Autrey, his wife Tara Autrey; grandchildren, Ashlyn and Liam Autrey of Waterford; aunt Josephine D'Arinzo of Darien; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Guests can gather for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, in St. Joseph Church, 149 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment to follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New London.

Linda has always had a wonderful way about her ... smiling, laughing, giggling with Ashlyn & Liam, caring, helping out in any way she could, taking care of "Nutmeg" whenever Jeff & Tara went away, enjoying Ashlyn & Liam Friday nite sleepovers as often as possible !
Whenever I think of Linda I´ll always picture her smiling face and it will make me smile too

My sweet BFF Linda, there is a massive hole in my heart where you once filled it. We had so many adventures usually with shenanigans attached. You helped me raise my grandson and you will forever be his Miss Linda. All our meals we had at your mom´s table, your world famous meatballs will be definitely missed. The adventures with our grandkids. As Co-workers how we triumphed and laughed till we almost peed our pants. You will be so missed by me, my husband Lou, and our kids Brandon & Antonio. Thank you for always being there. Keep a watch over Jeff and his family, all your friends and family. You were a light in so many lives and you will always be my sister from another mister. We were beyond blessed to have you as a friend

Linda has been our neighbor for 25 years. We have laughed and cried and shared wine and food and talked over our deck railings late at night about nothing and everything. She leaves a hole in our lives and it will not be the same here without her. Carol and slim
