Linda May Carroll of Waltham, passed away after a brief illness, on Saturday, August 23, 2025. She passed peacefully, in the comfort of her beloved home, with loved ones holding her hands and by her side. She was 80 years old.

Born on January 18, 1945, in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late John B. Mogan Jr. and Mary C. (Hines) Mogan. Linda was raised and educated in Waltham.

She was a dearly loved wife, mother and homemaker and the center of a very large extended family. In her early years, she worked for Unitrode Corporation before dedicating much of her life as a devoted caregiver and nanny to the Phillips Family of Weston and Nantucket. Later, she was employed at Brandeis University, from which she retired after 10 years of service.

Linda's life was defined by her selfless and endless devotion to her family. She will be remembered for her empathy, her motherly ways and the kind but firm love and care she bestowed on all those around her. Linda was known in the family as the "one who took care of everyone." She lived her whole life in the family home and took care of her elderly parents, her younger brothers and sisters and then in turn helped to raise and care for many nieces, and nephews.

When not tending to the hearts, minds and physical needs of other people, she loved to spend time visiting and talking with family, friends and anyone who sought out her kind and listening ear. And she could always be relied on to remember who and how all the relatives were related as well as nearly all the stories, milestones, and events in her very large family. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, doing word search puzzles, and tending to her home, plants and garden. She looked forward every spring to going to the Boston Flower Show to get a glimpse of what the seasons ahead would hold. Linda particularly loved hosting and attending parties when the family gathered all together to celebrate holidays, birthdays and special occasions.

Linda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard Carroll Sr., her cherished son, Gary J. Carroll; and her dear siblings, William "Billy" (Gerri) Mogan, John B. "Jackie" (Nancy) Mogan III, Elaine (Paul) Sennett, Lucy Mogan, Elizabeth "Betsy" (Bobby) Hawkes, Edward "Eddie" (Elise) Mogan, Shirley (Vinny) Vasta, Warren (Virginia) Mogan, and Michael Mogan.

She leaves behind her devoted and loving son, Richard Carroll Jr. of Waltham; her siblings, Joan (Bob) Maloney of Plainville, Allen (Elaine) Mogan of Waltham, and Mary (Rick) Mathis of Connecticut; as well as dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who will forever cherish her memory.

Linda's strength, love and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

The family extend their heartfelt thanks to the helpful, kind and gentle staff and caregivers from Newton Wellesley Hospital and Good Shepherd Hospice who cared for Linda and her family in the last weeks and days of her life.
