Linda Marie Coughlin passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, in Houston, Texas, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 29, 1949, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, to Andrew and Louisa White, Linda was the oldest of five siblings and a proud daughter of Ulster.
Her earliest memories were of carefree days spent by the Irish Sea, eating periwinkles fresh from the shore during family outings to the coast. Though she moved with her family to Wisconsin as a child, where she became an Irish dancer, Linda never let go of her Northern Irish roots-returning for a final visit in 2019 to attend a July 12th bonfire in Bangor, a place that held a special place in her heart.
Eventually settling in Houston, Texas, Linda built a life rooted in hard work, deep family ties, and quick wit. She enjoyed a long career as an escrow specialist, a role she took immense pride in. She cherished her colleagues, many of whom became lifelong friends.
Linda was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Andrew and Louisa White, and by her brother, Robert White (Elizabeth). She is survived by her loving children, James "J.T." O'Brien and his wife Katharine, Andrew Coughlin, and Mike Jordan, whom she called her adopted son, as well as her cherished grandson, Randal Dax Coughlin. She also leaves behind her sisters Irene (David Hargy) and Florence (Michael Ritchie), and her brother Drew (Pam), along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who brought her great joy.
A woman known for her sense of humor and strong spirit, Linda never lost her sparkle. In her final hours, lying with her eyes closed beside her son, James, and sister, Florence, she suddenly opened them wide and grinned, saying "Just kidding!" before drifting back to sleep-a final reminder of the joy and laughter she brought to everyone who knew her.
Linda's legacy is one of love, laughter, strength, and fierce pride in where she came from. She will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Linda touched many lives with her kindness, resilience, and quiet strength. In her final years, she was cared for with love and dedication by Lacy Grossman, to whom the family extends their deepest gratitude. Lacy's compassion and commitment-while also attending college and raising her son-brought great comfort to Linda and her family. The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Methodist Continuing Care Hospital, especially her BFF Nurse, Jennifer Figge. You made her feel safe and at peace. Thank you.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Houston, with details to follow. When the family is ready, Linda's ashes will go home to Northern Ireland and the Irish Sea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Linda to Citizens for Animal Protection.
