Linda Irene King Crabtree

Linda Irene King Crabtree, born June 15 1941, in Erwin Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024 surrounded by family. She was the daughter of William "Bill" and Lillian Edwards King and sister to Julian King.

Linda enjoyed an idyllic childhood in Tennessee and at the Edwards family farm in Union Bridge, Maryland, where she found joy in the company of her nurturing aunts, uncles, and cousins.

After graduating from high school in Erwin, Linda pursued a BS in Nursing from East Tennessee University. Her dedication to serving others led her to a role as a public health nurse in Tennessee, where she met Perry Crabtree, who would become her lifelong partner. On June 6, 1964, Linda and Perry began their journey together in Greensboro, NC. Linda's career flourished as a dedicated and compassionate public health nurse, and she retired as a public health school nurse supervisor, leaving a lasting impact on all who worked with her.

Linda's life was enriched by her many hobbies and passions, including knitting, painting, tai chi, and barbershop singing. She also valued her many years singing in the First Presbyterian Church Choir. Linda was deeply committed to giving back to her community. Her philanthropy supported Guilford Green Foundation & LGBTQ Center, First Presbyterian Church, Urban Ministries, and Friends Homes.

Above all, Linda loved being a grandmother. She was immensely proud and thrilled by the accomplishments of her grandchildren, Clare, Tess, Samantha, and Braden. Linda is survived by her two sons, Matthew and Nathan; Matthew's wife, Elizabeth; her cherished grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In her final days, Linda was cared for by the Friends Home at Guilford nursing staff in Whittier hall. The outpouring of love from countless staff members there and from Fry Hall Assisted Living who came to visit her clearly showed the indelible mark she made on Friends Homes at Guilford. The family wishes to thank the Friends Home at Guilford staff for their superior level of care and kindness.

Linda Irene King Crabtree will be remembered for her boundless love, compassion, sense of humor, and dedication to her family and community. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 617 N Elm St, Greensboro, NC 27401, on Saturday, August 10 at 1 p.m. Following the service, there will be an informal receiving of family and friends with light refreshments in the Virginia Gilmer room at the church.
