Linda Hawkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by C. C. Carter Funeral Home, Inc. - Newport News on Aug. 29, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Our beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and a friend to all, Linda Faye Hawkins, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Linda was a pure, sweet, soul and she filled our hearts with love, joy, and laughter for 64 years, which we celebrate with thanksgiving.

Linda Faye Hawkins was born to Claude (Dirty Red as Linda called Him), and Geneva Hawkins on November 25, 1960, in Newport News Va. Linda was the fifth child born to this union and their most precious gift from God. She was educated within the Newport News School System and received her high school diploma in 1982. In 1983, Linda was chosen as Prom Queen at Sarah Hudgins Foundation in Hampton Va. Everyone knew how much Linda love the Lord and was excited to attend Temple of Peace Baptist Church almost every Sunday until her passing.

Linda was a prime example of God's miraculous miracle. She surpassed doctors' expectations for her lifespan, quality of life, and the influence she would have in this world.

Linda was preceded in death by many relatives including her sister, MaryAnne Hawkins; Maternal Grandmother, Dora Sykes; Paternal Grandmother, Carrie Settlers; Nephews, Zopella (Dion) Hawkins; Antoino Hawkins (Baldy); Brothers-In-Love; Larry D. Bell, Leroy Tunstall, Bobby Carter, and Leo Jones Sr.

Linda was blessed to have a big, beautiful, and loving family that will continue to cherish her memories. Survivors include her parents, her sisters, which she affectionately called her "Baby Cakes;" Tina Hawkins, Barbara Moore; Bernice Bell; Carolyn Tunstall; Diane Hawkins; and her only Brother Troy Hawkins. Also left to cherish her memories are her 18 nieces and nephews; 47 great nieces and nephews; 19 great-great nieces and nephews and 4 great-great-great nieces. In addition, Linda leaves behind a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and Friends, who will remember a warm hug, a simple high five, her smart wit or a hearty laugh, followed by her most common phrase "You're a trip."

Linda was such a beautiful ray of sunshine in our family. In her lifetime, Linda brought extraordinary joy to everyone who crossed her path. She knew no stranger and called everyone her friend. Linda will be remembered for her love of singing and dancing often imitating Micheal Jackson while singing Billie Jean, Jesus loves me, Soon and Very Soon we are going to see the king. Linda enjoys the simple pleasures of life, her babydolls, The Disney Channel, but nothing brought her more joy than a pack of cookies. It did not matter the brand or the flavor of cookies; Linda enjoyed them all. Everyone knew that if you bought Linda a pack of cookies, you would receive a friend for life.

Finally, Linda loved and cherished her family, and we loved her no matter how many times she called us "fat," told us "We were pregnant," or said we were "old." It is good to say that Linda was a blessing to her parents; a precious jewel to her siblings; a protector and nurturer to her nieces and nephews and a friend to the rest of the world.

Thank you, Linda, for teaching the world the great lessons about resilience, empathy, compassion, and the true definition of God's love.

On August 28,2025, the world lost a pure, sweet, spirit but Heaven gained the most precious angel. Linda Faye Hawkins, absent from the body but present with the Lord.

It is the desire of the Hawkins family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
