Linda Hughes Johnson, a devoted homemaker, beloved mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Easley, South Carolina, on August 30, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on February 3, 1942, in Greenville, South Carolina, Linda was a beacon of love and kindness throughout her life.
Linda was renowned for her nurturing spirit and boundless affection for her family. She created a warm, welcoming home where her loved ones felt cherished. Her remarkable cooking skills brought everyone together, with especially fond memories of big breakfasts and her famous biscuit recipe that will be echoed in the hearts of her family for generations to come.
Her personality shone brightly; she was not only loving and selfless but also fiercely protective of those she held dear. Linda had the innate ability to make everyone feel special, trusting others easily and giving of her heart without reservation. She instilled in her family the values of love, compassion, and laughter, which they will carry forward in her memory.
Linda took great joy in hobbies such as bird watching, gardening, and feeding the hummingbirds, finding tranquility in nature as well as satisfaction in crafting beautiful meals for her family. The warmth of her spirit and her engaging hobbies left a lasting mark on the lives she touched.
She is survived by Jane Andrews, Teresa (Jim) Schurtz, Dawn Hayes, and Denise (John) Reed; her sons John Johnson, James (Evenlyn) Johnson, and Bobo (Terrie) Johnson; and a proud legacy composed of her grandchildren: Howard (Brooke), David (Dalah), Bobby, Amanda (Brandon), Heather (Dexter), Heather (Matt), Colby, Hayley, Neil (Ashley), Mikayla (Nathan), Kelsey (Skyler), Samantha (Andrew), Tiffany (Mark), and Johna (Drew). Linda was immensely proud of her 33 great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy and comfort.
The bonds she formed with her family were her proudest accomplishments, and it is often said that her youngest son, "Timbo," was the apple of her eye, a testament to the special connections she nurtured throughout her life.
Linda is preceded in death by her loving husband, James E. Johnson, Sr.; her daughter, Lulu Johnson; her son, Timbo Johnson; and her grandson, Anthony Stewart. Their absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, a gentle reminder of the importance of family and connection.
Family and friends are invited to remember Linda and pay their respects on September 5, 2025, at a graveside service at Greenville Memorial Gardens, located at 7784 Augusta Road, Piedmont, SC, starting at 12:45 PM.
