Linda Kalb Obituary

MAYSVILLE — At the age of 81, Mrs. Linda Jeanne (Hutchison) Kalb passed away peacefully on the morning of April 13, 2025.

Linda was born on April 18, 1943, to the late George Newton and Rose Evelyn (Parker) Hutchison at the Hayswood Hospital in Maysville. Growing up, Linda helped her uncle, Bob Hutchison, run their family's store (Hutchison's Grocery) on the corner of Prospect and East Second Street in downtown Maysville.

Linda was a proud graduate of Maysville High School, Class of 1961. She participated actively in the school's music programs, playing the clarinet in the band under the direction of John K. Farris and singing in the choir under the leadership of Miss Mary Denney. In addition to her school music activities, she was also a member of the chancel choir and often sang solos at Trinity United Methodist Church under the direction of Nicola "Nick" Marinaro.

On a hot 17th day of June in 1962, Linda married the man who would become her husband of 62 years, Philip Merrill Kalb. After marrying, they fostered several kids in their early years and then adopted and raised three children of their own.

Linda was a stay-at-home wife and mother for most of her life, helping to farm the family's land on Strodes Run Road until 2003. After the farm, she went to work with Hayswood Home Health, worked at the Adult Day Care in Flemingsburg, and then worked as a driver for the Licking Valley Community Action as a driver until 2020. She loved her husband, family, friends, puppies, and learning about Christ.

Linda was a devoted member of the Mill Creek Christian Church, having transferred from Trinity United Methodist Church in Maysville in Sept. 1961. Over the years, she faithfully served her church as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, elder, and deaconess. Known for her generous spirit and dedication to others, she was always willing to help and serve wherever needed. Linda also audited several lay school classes through Lexington Theological Seminary, reflecting her deep commitment to faith and learning. She built her life on a steadfast foundation of Christian faith and did her best to live it out. To know Linda was to know she knew Jesus.

Linda is survived by her three children: David Gustav (Krista) Kalb of Maysville, Darrell Eugene (Michelle) Kalb of Maysville, and Mary Sue (Kalb) Stewart of Maysville; five grandchildren: Russell (Casey) Goins, D. Sebastian (Brooke) Kalb, Philip (Rebecca Alderson) Goins, Christian L. Kalb, and Noah Kalb; 12 great-grandchildren: Madison Tincher, Nevaeh Waldridge, Ashlynn Goins, Bailee Goins, Hadley Goins, Eli Goins, J.T. Goins, Theo Goins, Lily Alderson, Khloe Prichard, Zayla Kalb, and Sonny Kalb; one nephew: Troy (Jane) Hutchison of Winchester; and one niece: Shelly (Ron) Hoover of Richmond.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, George Newton (1969) and Rose Evelyn (Parker) (1991) Hutchison; her husband of 62 years, Philip Merrill Kalb (2024); her brother James Newton Hutchison (2022); one niece Shari Lynn Hutchison (1962); and one great-grandson Braylon Laine Goins (2022).

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Mill Creek Christian Church: Disciples of Christ (6861 Kentucky Highway #11, May's Lick, 41055) with a visitation from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and service beginning at 12 p.m. The Rev. Martin L. Voiers, II, will bring the message and officiate the service. In honor and memory of his nanny, organ selections will be given by her grandson, Christian L. Kalb, on the church's Concert Model Hammond. The church will provide a reception and will follow the memorial service in the building's Fellowship Hall. A private family burial will be observed at the Wedonia Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Mill Creek Christian Church: Music Fund (6861 Kentucky Highway #11, May's Lick, Kentucky 41055).

Remember Linda as a pretty young girl with beautiful dark hair, her clarinet case under her arm waiting for the doors to open at Maysville High school where I was a freshman. Linda was a very outgoing friendly and very nice. Her husband Philip and sister Phyllis were wonderful friends throughout school at Orangeburg HS. The Kalb family treated their children´s friends like family and I was privileged to share that special connection. My sincerest sympathy to the entire family and Linda´s multitude of friends.
