Linda Kay Kylmanen, 75, Detroit Lakes, MN (formerly Waubun, MN) passed away peacefully with her husband and children by her side on Thursday, April 11th, 2024, at Sanford Health.
Linda Kay Van Dyke was born to John and Marie (Roorda) Van Dyke on July 31, 1948. She grew up at a farm near Ypsilanti, ND and graduated from Montpelier High School. After graduation she attended Jamestown Beauty School. On November 1st, 1968 she married the love of her life Ken Kylmanen, also of Jamestown. They lived for 2 years in Valley City, ND where he finished his college education and received his Bachelors of Arts degree. They then moved to Waubun, MN where Ken would begin his career as an Art teacher. There they would raise their 2 daughters, Tammy and Ammie (who would marry brothers, Bruce and Mark Winter). Linda owned/rented her own beauty shop in Flom, MN for 5 years, working 3 days a week, and then moved on to work at the Twin Valley Nursing Home as a CNA/TMA for 19 years. This was a job she loved, where she filled many hearts and where she always felt she was meant to be.
In her spare time, Linda enjoyed knitting, baking, baking, and more baking. "I can't tell you how many chocolate chip cookies I made for the greatest family ever. My son-in-law, Mark would hide them in his dresser drawers so no one else could find them. Beings I wrote this, I can now share his secret, haha. So first, just remember Grams, and know that I will still be making more cookies for all my angels". Linda was always sharing her "treats" with her family, friends, and neighbors, and would even deliver Christmas platters with all her baked goodies to share. Linda's giving, caring nature was felt by all those that knew her.
Above anything else, Linda cherished her family and the precious time she got to spend with them. Her husband, Ken was her best friend, and her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She never missed a birthday, holiday, or opportunity to give a card/gift to let them know how special they were and would never fail to comment on the many social media posts that were shared. We will always treasure the precious memories she gave us.
A final note from Linda: Don't cry. Here is a saying our daughter, Ammie sent me one day. I read it every day and will until the day I pass. (This is my favorite, along with my mother's favorite poem "Drinking from My Saucer"). "God is Good! Every day we live is a gift, so thank God in the morning for another day of life, and thank him in the evening for getting you through the day. Amen".
Linda was proceeded in death by her parents, Marie and John Van Dyke; sister, Beth Tudahl; Ken's parents, Wesley and Elbie Kylmanen; brother-in-law, Edwin Kylmanen; and grandchildren, Addison and Karissa Winter.
Linda is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ken; her daughters, Tammy (Bruce) Winter of Waubun, MN, and Ammie (Mark) Winter of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandchildren: Tyson (Ellie) Winter, Tracee (Evan) Skaurud, Taylor (Mike) Winter, Tessa (Brock) Nelson, Anthony (Carissa) Winter, Adam (Lea) Winter, Austin (Kelly) Winter, Kassidy (Alex) Winter; great-grandchildren: Wesley, Wripley, Ava, Ivy, Mercedes, Myles, Brislynne, Beckham, Memphis, Nova, Wilder, Jett, Kennedy, and baby boy Vilmo.
May God Bless the memory of Linda Kay Kylmanen. The best wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. "We love you more".
