Linda Joan Moss, 77, of Athens, Georgia passed away on September 22, 2025, surrounded by family.
Daughter to the late Alvin and Mae Costain, Linda was born and raised on Prince Edward Island in rural Canada, where she attended a two room school house with her three siblings. In the late 60s, Linda worked as a paralegal in Montreal, eventually moving to Toronto, where in 1969, she met her future husband. As coach of the Toronto Women’s Insurance Softball League, Bob quickly fell in love with the beautiful superstar playing first base. In her early married years, Linda worked as the legal secretary for a senior partner at the law firm Fraser Beatty.
In 1982, along with her husband and daughter, she moved to Marietta, Georgia. Linda thrived in the welcoming neighborhood of Chestnut Springs, where she played tennis, welcomed her son into the world, and built countless lifelong friendships. She worked as a manager for the Hallmark store in Marietta and as a preschool teacher for many years. As her children grew up, she enjoyed volunteering through the schools, especially with Habitat for Humanity, even meeting with President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter.
After moving to Athens, Georgia, Linda became employed at South Jackson Elementary School where she worked as a special education para professional. She loved working with students from varying backgrounds and needs. Mrs. Moss also dedicated much of her time to volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospice House, choosing to help others on her own birthday and even Mother’s Day.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Mae Costain, and her brother Heath Costain.
Linda is survived by her husband Bob, her children Lindsay Gregory (Derrick) and Andrew Moss (Becca), her sister Heather Leonard, her twin sister Judy Leard, and her four grandchildren - Emily Gregory, Elizabeth Gregory, Isaac Gregory, and Madelyn Moss.
In accordance with her final wishes, there will not be a formal funeral service. Instead, family and friends are welcome to gather and share memories during visitation from 5 to 7pm on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Lord and Stephens of Athens (east).
In lieu of flowers and in keeping with her selfless spirit, please consider memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or Habitat for Humanity.
