It is with a sense of profound love and admiration that we celebrate the life of Linda Susan Obaseki, affectionately known as "LADY C". Born to the late Henry and Willie Mae Caldwell on May 19, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois. Linda was a vibrant, inspiring, and talented individual whose zest for life was contagious. A creative soul, she had an unmatched ability to fill any room with laughter and joy, bringing an enduring light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Farragut Career Academy High School and Debbie's School of Cosmetology graduate, Linda's drive and determination were evident early on. She worked as an Operating Room Technician at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois. She went on to have a successful career in property management, where her resourcefulness and tenacity shone through. However, her unyielding commitment to her family truly defined Linda.
She was a loving mother to Aretha (William) Caldwell-Thomas, Eric Caldwell-Obaseki, Andr'e (Domonique) Obaseki, Elizabeth (Curtis) McKinney, and Joey (Martha) Obaseki. A doting grandmother and great-grandmother, her family was her greatest joy and she treasured every moment spent with them. Often seen singing and dancing with her grandchildren; Tyler, Taylor, Kaila, Christian, Shanai, Jordan, James, Kaharri, Aricha, Kymani, Jahki, Eric Jr., Peyton, Osamagbe, Ahdiyah, Noah, Carter, Delanie, Layla, Andr'e Jr., Nyomi, Nyima, Amora, Skylar, and Durral. Great-grandchildren; Kai'a, William, Nolan, Gabriella, Jeremiah, and Preston. A host of loving nieces and nephews, especially her two nieces who carried a special place in her heart; "Daughty" LaMona Domonique Caldwell and "Cotton Toes" Katherine Jeanine (Marcus) Caldwell-Smith.
Linda is survived by her children Aretha, Eric, Andr'e, Elizabeth, and Joey, and three siblings; Albert Gene Caldwell, Joan Caldwell, and Christine Caldwell. Linda is preceded in death by her parents; Henry (Willie Mae) Caldwell, and her siblings; Catherine, Johnny (Vera) Caldwell, David (Caroline) Caldwell Sr., Doris (Chester) Ross, Hazel (Leon) Turner, Willie Lee Sr. (Eldora) Caldwell; her grandson, Anthony Justin Ellis; and a adopted nephew, Willie Caldwell.
Linda was an active and vibrant community member hosting many events, with a passion for cooking, singing, dancing, and throwing parties. She was also known for her karaoke skills and her ability to be the life of any party. Her faith played a significant role in her life, serving as the choir director at her church Greater Christian Light M.B. (Chicago), Mid-City Missionary Baptist & Mount Moriah (Grand Rapids, Michigan). She found solace and strength in her faith, which guided her in her daily life.
As stated in Psalms 9:1, "I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of ALL your wonderful deeds." Her Love for Christ was shared with a "Hallelujah Thank You Jesus", no matter where she went she told the world without restraint.
With her great love for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Union City, Georgia, Grand Rapids, and Ada, Michigan, Linda found her home in Kentwood, Michigan where she took her final rest. Her funny and engaging personality left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her belief in perseverance and determination, her love of life, and her unwavering faith are the characteristics that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Upon her arrival to Grand Rapids, Linda met some amazing friends like Linda Divers, Vernard Jones, Stephanie (Mike) Brown, and Anna "AnnaBoo" (Darrin) Jones-Sims. All of whom created and cherish lasting memories with Linda through family, friends, and most of all LOVE!!
