Linda Owens Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Gail Dix Owens, a beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, who left this world on August 25, 2025, at the age of 84.

Linda was born in Tupelo on September 21, 1940, and spent her childhood and formative years in Tupelo. She was struck down by polio in her tween years and fought to learn to walk again without the aid of crutches. Linda went on to graduate from Tupelo High School in 1958. During her time there, she was proud to be a member of the chorus and was honored to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a testament to her vibrant spirit and dedication.

A lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo, Linda was deeply committed to her faith. In her younger years, she actively participated in church activities such as singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and working at Vacation Bible School. Her passion for music shone brightly as she not only taught children's choirs but also chaperoned youth trips and choir tours.

She embraced her role of a homemaker and took pride in her clean, organized and beautifully decorated home. Her attention to detail extended to all aspects of her life. Linda was known for her love of shopping, especially for shoes and purses. She always said "Shoes and purses always fit!"

Sadly, Linda faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease in her later years, a battle that ultimately led to her passing. Her family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the wonderful staff at The Meadows in Fulton and Sanctuary Hospice House, whose kindness and support made her journey more peaceful.

Linda leaves behind a legacy of love that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Linda is survived by her husband of 36 years, Bill Owens of Tupelo; only daughter, Lisa Simmons Hargett (Rick) of Tupelo; two grandsons and their girlfriends, Alex Hargett (Lillian Ball) and Zac Hargett (Samantha Langston) of Memphis, Tennessee; bonus daughter, Nanette Owens Charlet of Des Moines, Iowa; bonus son, Joe Owens of Des Moines, Iowa; and many bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Opal Dix.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday, August 29, 2025, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Service's honoring Linda's life will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2025, at Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Matt Powell officiating. Burial will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Agape Sunday School class at First Baptist Church Tupelo and graduating members of the Tupelo High School Class of 1958.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America at 322 8th Ave, 16th Floor, New York, New York, 10001.
