Linda Persyn Obituary

Linda Cooper Persyn
September 2, 1945 - August 8, 2025
Linda Cooper Persyn, a loyal wife, devoted mother, proud Texan and passionate historian, passed away peacefully just shy of her 80th birthday, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in 1945, Linda grew up in San Antonio, where her love for history- especially Texas history-was sparked. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1963, where she was a member of the school's world-renowned Lassos drill team. A fiery redhead with a sharp mind and quick wit, Linda was known for her spirited personality and deep curiosity about the past.
Her knowledge of Texas history was unmatched, particularly when it came to her beloved hometown of San Antonio. She was an active member of the Leon Valley Historical Society, serving as President for several years, and played a key role in the restoration of the Huebner-Onion Homestead, ensuring that local history would be preserved for generations to come.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Persyn, with whom she shared a life full of love, laughter, and family; her parents, Edward Anthony and Hattie Belle Cooper; her brother, Edward "Bubba" Cooper, and his wife, Georgette Cooper; and her brother, Bill Cooper. She is survived by Bill's wife, Mary Cooper; her brother, John Cooper, and his wife, Melody Cooper, along with their children, Anne Mehrbod and Eric Cooper; and Linda's four children - Dan Persyn and his wife, Dondi, and their children, Danielle Kruciak, Darin Carrell, and Dawson Persyn; Will Persyn and his wife, Jennifer, and their three children, Olivia Woodford, Natalie Persyn, and Vivian Persyn; Becky Nolan and her husband, Mike, and their daughter, Abigail Nolan; and Carey Morgan and her husband, Jason, and their two children, Harper and Cooper Morgan.
Known lovingly as "Nonnie" and "Mrs P" she was "Mom" not only to her own children, but also to countless friends and neighbors who found comfort, advice, and sometimes a good dose of her trademark sass in her presence. Generous in spirit, her home was often the gathering place for friends and family. Endlessly curious, Linda leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the history that shaped her life and community.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 9:00 am - 10:00 am at Mission Park Funeral Chapels Dominion with a Memorial Service starting at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leon Valley Historical Society or San Antonio Conservation Society in her honor.

My memories of Linda are always with a smile on her face and a genuine welcome whenever you saw her. My deepest condolences to her family (my cousins) and hoping that in time the sadness of your loss will be replaced by the wonderful, joyous, and precious moments that you spent together. What a great legacy she leaves behind!

Linda was one of my best friends. We spent many years together doing volunteer work for the Leon Vally Historical Society and the San Antonio Conservation Society. We both loved history about historical places in and around San Antonio. We also attended the Oxford Methodist Church
together with our close net of friends.

One of our favorite places was Oak Hills Country Club where we socialized at many Red Hat Dinners. We would often spend many
cold winter nights sitting around her warm fire place in her lovely
home with white lights on the mantel, talking about our High School
days in the 1960's. We both graduated in the year of 1963, She at Jefferson
High in San Antonio, and I at Corpus Christi Ray High.

I will miss her dearly, and will remember and see her in all godly
things such as the flowers she liked and the historical markers that
we visited together.

My condolences go out to all her family. Thank You" Linda" for being
my friend for all of those wonderful years. You will always be
remembered.
