With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Linda Lee Skodack, who departed this life peacefully at home on October 13, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Muskegon, MI, to Charles and Margaret (Juhas) Dethloff, she graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1963. It was there she met the love of her life, Gary, by slipping him a note inviting him to a Halloween party - a sweet, bold gesture that sparked a love story lasting 65 wonderful years. Together, they built a life full of laughter, love, and countless treasured memories.
Those who knew her will remember her quiet strength and deep compassion. Linda lived a life rooted in nature, love, and family. Her passion for horses was lifelong-whether riding, caring for them, or simply watching them run; they brought her a sense of peace and purpose that never faded. She found similar joy with her hands in the soil, tending to her garden with patience and pride. Flowers, vegetables, herbs-whatever she grew; she nurtured with the same love she gave to the people around her.
But above all, Linda cherished being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the heart of her world, and their laughter, stories, and hugs brought her immeasurable joy. Whether she was cheering them on from the sidelines, helping with school projects, or simply sharing quiet moments under the open sky, she had a special way of making each one feel deeply loved and uniquely cherished.
Linda's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love leave an enduring legacy. She will be missed deeply by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She left this world more beautiful than she found it.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Gary; her three children, Tammy (Terence) McBride, Mark (Heidi) Skodack, and Jill (Kevin) Niles; and her 5 grandchildren, Michael, Katelyn, Laura, Keira, and Ava. She is also survived by her brother, Rick (Jan) Dethloff, as well as 1 niece and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E Savage St.,
Spring Lake, MI 49456 with a visitation one-hour prior. Memorial contributions can be made to The Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding, Inc. Please share your memories with the family on their online guest book at https://www.sytsemafh.com.
