Linda Diggs Smith of Gloucester died on Monday, September 22, 2025, at her home at the age of 78. She was born on June 9, 1947, to the late William Pugh and Dorothy Scrimger Diggs in Richmond, VA. She graduated from Mathews High School. She worked for and retired from the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown as a security specialist and then for 16 years as an area supervisor at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. Linda made the world feel smaller and kinder, just by being in it. She never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She adored all of her grandchildren-every single one. She was everyone's Nana, their babysitter, their taxi cab, their panic resolver, and their go-to for just about any and everything. In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest West, Jr., her sister Judy Boyer, and her sister Barbara Marshall. Linda is survived by her husband, Lynn Allen Smith; her children, Patrick Leigh West (Jennifer) and Melissa Hill (Luby, III); stepchildren Scott (Becky), Beth (Wes), Dawn; her grandchildren Peyton West, Avery West, Carter West, Khayleb Whiting (Miranda), Jayden Whiting, Jazlyn "Jazzy" Whiting, Noah Hill; step-grandchildren Makela, Katherine, Hannah, Madison, Christopher, McKenzye; great-grandchildren Malakai Turner, Ezekiel Whiting, Josiah Whiting and step-great-grandchild AmyJo. She is also survived by her sister, Kathy Rowe. A celebration of life service will be held at Beech Grove Baptist Church on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at 5:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Dr. Richard Croxton. Inurnment is private.
