Robert Minter Lewis, 87 of Cobbs Creek, Virginia, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 13, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Frazier and Jannie Lewis, and his wives, Nancy Pittman Lewis and Barbara Booker Lewis. He is survived by his uncle J.C. Lewis, III, sister Eloise Rainier, and four sons and a daughter. Robert was born and raised on his family farm, where he continued farming as the fourth generation.
After graduating from Mathews High School in 1957, he served in the U.S. Army, spending most of his time in El Paso, Texas, and later in Florida due to the Cuban Crisis. In 1966, he married Nancy and became a father to James (Margaret), Perry (Jonnie), and twins Ronnie (Maggie) and Donnie (Sara). Robert was always committed to helping and improving his community. He was instrumental in building and developing the Little League fields and program. He was a charter member of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department Station 4 and the building of the Cobbs Creek station.
He was a lifelong, loving, and dedicated member of Locust Grove Church, where he served on numerous committees and held various positions. He was always a welcoming servant from the third row on the left. In 1998, Robert lost his wife, Nancy. Several years later, he met and married Barbara Booker, and in this uniting, he gained a loving daughter, Beth Clemmons. As the twins took over the family farm, he continued farming with the Fleet family farm, Fairfield. Robert’s family continued to grow with many additions. Ronnie (Maggie) gained 3 children in his marriage. Donnie (Sara) added his grandson, Noah Lewis, and granddaughter, Faith Lewis.
Robert was always at every sporting event, church activity, performance, recital, and graduation. When he wasn’t on the bleachers, he was working in his shop or his bountiful garden to share with everyone. And whether you knew him as Robert Minter, Robert, Bobby, Daddy, Uncle Bobby, Granddaddy, or Ronnie & Donnie’s Dad, he had a smile and a kind word as he asked about you. The most recent addition to his family was a great-grandson. Gregory brought great joy to his life and was the apple of his eye.
Robert Minter’s life will be celebrated with visitation on Friday, September 19th, 6:00-8:00 pm at Locust Grove Global Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 20th, at 11:00 am at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will follow in the church pavilion. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Locust Grove Church -1832 Windsor Rd., Dutton, VA 23050.
