Born on April 5, 1936, Harriet lived a life rooted in love, service, and community. She dedicated 25 years of her career to Mathews High School, where she was a beloved and dependable presence. Her calm demeanor, kind heart, and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on generations of students. Whether working behind the scenes or cheering from the sidelines, Harriet had a gift for making young people feel seen, supported, and valued. Her involvement extended beyond the workday, as she volunteered tirelessly at school sporting events, especially volleyball and football, where her presence became a comforting constant for students, staff, and families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Bland Armistead and Myrle Ripley Armistead; her son, Mark Bland Whitener; and her grandson, Brandon Michael Lowery.
