Linda Thompson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 14, 2025.
Linda Jo Thompson, 77, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2025.

Born on March 16, 1948, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Bernice Wallgren. Linda attended the University of Kansas, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education.

In 1967, she married Jerry Thompson, and though they later divorced in 1990, they shared a loving family together with two children, Barry Thompson and Lori Thompson.

Over the years, Linda made homes in Irvine, California; Arvada, Colorado; Henderson, Nevada; Sanford, Florida; and most recently, Charlotte, North Carolina. She taught high school for several years before beginning a long and fulfilling career in Human Resources Management, from which she eventually retired.

Music was one of Linda's greatest passions. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, serving faithfully in many churches-both her own congregations and others-in every community she lived. She also found joy in giving back, volunteering as a tutor in local schools and public libraries, continuing her work with students up until the week before her passing.

Linda will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, and gentle wisdom. She was exceptionally intelligent, yet humble and never judgmental. She was a wonderful listener, a natural teacher, and a beloved friend to many. She loved visiting with family and friends, playing cards, attending baseball games, and sharing laughter with those around her.

A devoted member of Morning Star Lutheran Church in Matthews, NC, Linda lived her faith through service, music, and compassion for others.

She is survived by her son, Barry Thompson, and his wife, Michelle; her daughter, Lori Thompson, and her husband, John Thompson; her grandchildren, Tyler, Sophie, Clive, and Lilith; her brothers, Greg Wallgren and his wife, Cheri, and Dale Wallgren and his wife, Susan; and nephews Jake, Andy, Chad, and Shawn. She was also a loving "grandmother" to Barry and Michelle's pets-Sadie and Brando, and their cat, Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Morning Star Lutheran Church in Matthews, NC.
