Mr. Lindsey Henderson Brickey, age 81, of
Honaker, Virginia passed away Saturday (March 7, 2026) in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital. Born May 8, 1944 in Wise County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Ernest and Viola Matthews Brickey. A lifelong resident of the Southwest Virginia area, he had spent his early life in the Big Stone Gap area and had lived in Honaker for the past thirty-eight years. He was a 1963 graduate of Powell Valley High School and loved his classmates dearly. He was the Drum Major and played the tuba in the band, sang in the choir, and a member of the Glee Club. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he was a member of Washington County Moose Lodge #1966 and of the Baptist faith. He had formerly been employed at Westmoreland Coal Company and most recently at Interstate Equipment until his retirement.
Lindsey will always be remembered as a wonderful, sweet, and kind man whose heart was devoted to the people he loved most. He was a man who brought warmth, laughter, and genuine kindness to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Lindsey cherished his faith and his relationship with God and his family above all else. His greatest love was his beloved wife, Susie, whom he adored deeply. Their bond was one filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering companionship. Lindsey loved everything about Susie – especially the love she poured into her cooking, which he enjoyed so much. Together they shared a life full of affection, friendship, and countless cherished memories.
He found joy in life's simple pleasures. Lindsey loved spending time on the golf course, casting a line while fishing, and gathering with friends and family whenever he could. Music was another passion close to his heart. Whether playing his guitar or singing. Lindsey loved sharing music with those around him. He was a lifelong Tennessee Vols fan.
More than anything, Lindsey valued time spent with the people he loved. His kindness, gentle spirit, and warm smile will be remembered by all who knew him. He had a way of making others feel welcome, appreciated and loved.
Lindsey leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered and always held close in the hearts of those who loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt and uncle who helped raise him, Becky and Emory Brickey; four siblings, Hershel Brickey, Callis Brickey, Lucky Brickey, and Betty Brickey; and uncle, Jim Matthews.
Survivors include his loving wife of thirty-eight years, Susie Honaker Brickey; three children, Melissia Nikolaus and husband, Craig, Waylon Brickey and wife, Nicole, and Amy Brickey; his step-son, Tony Honaker and wife, Regina; three siblings, Rhonda Stanley and husband, Bill, Violet Brickey, and Tina Ross; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Shelvia Jackson, Jim Honaker, Wanda Wilson and husband, Junior, Diane Hess, and Sandy McGlothlin and husband, Tom; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel,
Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Mike McGlothlin officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640 of Richlands, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Broadwater, Jeff Wilson, Shawn Hess, Curt Widener, Richard Necessary, Carter McGlothlin, David Fogleson, and Craig Nikolaus.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Honaker, Joe Varney, Tom McGlothlin, Bill Snodgrass, Junior Wilson, and Mattie Watts.
He was an avid animal lover, who had many cherished pets throughout the years, so in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Margaret Mitchell Animal Clinic, 16222 Lee Highway, Bristol, Virginia 24202.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
