Lionel Patrick "Putsy" Pitre earned his heavenly wings on Thursday January 29, 2026 and went to rest in the arms of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
He was born on March 17, 1929 to Daniel Forest Pitre and Bertha Breaux Pitre. He lived his entire life in Montegut, Louisiana. Putsy treasured our Sportsman's Paradise with his happiest days being spent on the water, crabbing, shrimping and especially hooking the biggest fish. The Days at his camp brought him the greatest joy!
He is survived by his beautiful wife of 71 years, Theresa "Ponnie" Hutchinson Pitre his "Queen" who he loved dearly, his daughters Nonna Whitney (Philip), Elodie "Deedie" Bourne (William "Tad"), Bertha Prosperie (Harold) and his son Lionel "Bosco" Pitre (Lesley).
He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Lee Prosperie (Jessica), Stanley "Stan" Whitney (Allyce), Teresa "Tess" Halbrooks (Chris), Evan Bourne, William "Will" Bourne, Jace Pitre (Jenna), Jude Pitre, Lex Pitre and Jill Pitre.
His greatest blessings were his seven great grandchildren, Adelyn Whitney, Luke and Benjamin Halbrooks, Zander and Nora Prosperie, Ensleigh Rodrigue and soon to arrive, Owen Patrick Pitre.
He is survived by his sister, Lucy Pitre Mahan and sister-in-law, Helen Ellender Pitre and his very special life-long friend, Curt Fabre whom he treasured as a brother.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Horace "Parker" Pitre (Mary), James "Jimmy" Pitre (Alma), Norris "Nook" Pitre, Rosalie Pitre Crochet (CJ), his brother-in-law, Fulton Mahan and his dearly loved niece, Mitzi Crochet Pinel. What a joyous reunion they had in heaven!
The Family would to thank his medical team who treated him with compassion, Dr. Russell Henry, Dr. Hayden Lafaye, Dr. Stephen Charbonnett and Haydel Memorial Hospice for guiding us through this journey to eternal rest.
He fought hard, grew weary but never loss his sense of humor. We love you dearly and will treasure the beautiful memories we shared, until we meet again! Love you Daddy!
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, in Montegut, Louisiana. Following a 10 a.m. presentation of military honors, the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.
