Born on December 29, 1934, in Rincon, New Mexico, Lionel brought joy to those around him through his remarkable talents and warm spirit. Throughout his life, he embraced every opportunity to share his love for music, effortlessly playing the guitar and piano, singing and dancing with a flair that could light up any room.
As a cook for Fred Harvey Airlines, Lionel enriched the lives of countless travelers with his culinary expertise. His passion for cooking was evident in the dishes he adored, especially his beloved Red Chile Enchiladas, which became a staple at family gatherings and shared celebrations.
Lionel's spirit shone brightly in his personal life, filled with love and partnership alongside his life partner of 46 years, Corine Serna. Together, they created beautiful memories, whether delighting in trips to the casino or exploring new adventures. Their bond was a testament to commitment and camaraderie that many admired.
Lionel's strength was a beacon of hope and inspiration. His resilience and zest for life will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched. He was a prime example of true strength, embodying both an indomitable spirit and vibrant joy. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him, reminding them to cherish the simple pleasures of life, to dance freely, and to savor every moment they are given.
As we gather to honor Lionel’s memory, we hold tight to our memories of his laughter, music, and relentless love for life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Max and Mercedes Serna, children, Dolores Aragon, Darrell Serna, and Gina Griego. He is survived by his wife, Corine Serna, children, Dennis Serna, Doug and Janet Serna, Brenda Chavez, Rick Chavez, Kevin Griego, Steven Griego, and Nancy Pacheco, His Ex-Wife, Mary Serna, godson, Jeremy Martinez, several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Memorial service will be held September 20, 2025, at 10:00am at Rivera Family Funeral Home in Espanola, NM. 305 Calle Salazar, Espanola, NM 87532.
