Roberto Martinez, affectionately known as Bobby, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 6, 1948, in Los Ojos, New Mexico, Bobby made a significant impact on the lives of those who knew him through his friendly demeanor, humor, and dedication to his family.
Bobby dedicated many years of his career to the Ohkay Casino before moving on to become a Retail Clerk at Walmart, where he primarily worked in the Paint Department. Known for his extensive knowledge and approachable nature, customers would often seek him out for advice or simply to enjoy a friendly chat. His commitment to his work and the people he encountered was a testament to his character.
Outside of his professional life, Bobby was deeply passionate about fishing, a pastime that brought him great joy. One cherished memory shared by his sister, Carol, recounts a fishing trip where she caught a sizable fish. As she beamed with pride, Bobby joyfully exclaimed, "Sis! You caught the biggest fish!" Such moments encapsulated Bobby’s ability to celebrate the successes of others with genuine enthusiasm.
Bobby was not only known for his love of fishing but also had an affinity for visiting casinos, where he enjoyed the thrill of gaming. He possessed a calm and friendly demeanor, which earned him the admiration of many. His humor often lightened any situation, and he was well-regarded for always having a witty remark to share.
A Catholic man, Bobby made it a point to pray every day, reflecting his deep faith and values. He built a beautiful life alongside his life partner, Margie Sanchez, with whom he shared over 30 wonderful years. Together, they created a loving home and family that included stepchildren, grandchildren, and cherished family members. Bobby's grandchildren would call him "GrandPapa Bear", a testament to his loving relationship with them and overall kindhearted nature.
He is survived by his life partner and love of his life, Margie Sanchez; his stepdaughter, Carrie Griego (Randy); stepson, Leo Jr.; siblings Willie Martinez, Ray Martinez, Carol Razler, and Annette Bustos; his special niece, Raelynn; special granddaughter, Leorrie Watson (Eric), and many additional grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved stepson, Rudy Sanchez; stepdaughter, Annette Griego; nephew, Ricky Martinez; niece, Reyna Martinez; and parents Reynaldo and Viola Martinez. He is also mourned by all of his cherished fur babies that have passed on.
Roberto Martinez leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends. His memory will be cherished and celebrated for many years to come.
