Lionel Weathersby Obituary
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust.
The year was 1952, the date was June 10th, and the place was Ponchatoula, Louisiana. A baby boy was born to the late Doreather Lott and the late Soloman Weathersby. Lional was the youngest of 8 children. On October 30, 2025, Lionel received his wings.
Lionel attended and graduated from Ponchatoula High School and, after graduation, enlisted in the United States Army. During his tenure in the Army, he received the rank of Sargent. After his honorable discharge from the Army, Lionel moved to Bogalusa, LA, to be closer to his family.
Lionel enjoyed living in Bogalusa and, through the years, gained many friends. Lionel was very passionate about life and also about his family. Lionel was very eccentric, always wanting to help anyone out with his philanthropy. Lionel was very social and loved to go to the Casino and dress to the nines. His favorite word to use was “Babe,” and his favorite saying: “You must don’t know about me.” and “The Devil is Busy.” His singing will be missed by all who knew him. But he now has a captive audience to serenade for eternity. Our Crazy Uncle, as we affectionately called him, will be Earthly missed.
Lionel later moved to Gulfport, MS, and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
His memories will live forever in the hearts of his family: one son, Lionel Walker of Hammond, LA; two granddaughters, Kyla Walker and Katie Walker, both of Hammond, LA.; two sisters: Betty Johnson of Gulfport, MS, and Joyce Joiner of Bogalusa, LA.; a special niece, Jackie Braziel of Ponchatoula, LA; and a host of nephews and nieces, and other relatives and friends.
Lionel was preceded in death by both parents: Soloman Weathersby and Doreather Lott; two sisters: Ella Mae Williams and Marilyn Joseph; three brothers: Clyde Tate, Lawrence Weathersby, and Willie Greely.
Internment
Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS, Monday, November 17, 2025, at 2:30 p.m.
