Lisa Cunningham Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Mortuary Chapel - Phoenix on Feb. 6, 2026.
Lisa Ann Cunningham, 67, originally of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at her home in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, February 1, 2026, after a three year battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). She was born on December 21, 1958, in Sturgeon Bay to Robert and Ann Stoneman. Lisa married Thomas Marshall Cunningham on December 26, 1981 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Lisa had a passion for caring for others, which she translated into a 40 year career in nursing. Lisa graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire in 1981. With her Naval Officer husband, Tom, Lisa traveled the world and held various Nursing positions of increasing responsibility at locations spanning the globe.

Lisa loved to travel. This travel was extensive to the point that when her family discussed possible destinations, they often joked, "Oh, Lisa has already been there." By far, her favorite trips were to visit her family whenever she could.

She is survived by her mother Ann Stoneman, her husband Tom Cunningham, her daughters Laura (James) Senften of Phoenix, AZ and Amy Walthereson of Phoenix, AZ, and her two grandchildren, Luke and Owen Senften. She is further survived by her brothers Peter (Laura) Stoneman of Sturgeon Bay, WI; Mark (Karen) Stoneman of Milwaukee, WI; and Paul (Sheila) Stoneman of Sturgeon Bay, WI; her sister Jill (Jason) Scheu of Menomonee Falls, WI; her sisters-in-law Lynn Cunningham, Kathryn "Kay" (Steve) Jensen, and Margaret "Meg" (Joel) Wissmueller; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding her in death was her father Robert "Bob" Stoneman, and in-laws, Marshall and Marilyn Cunningham.

The family plans to hold a memorial service for Lisa in Sturgeon Bay in the summer of 2026. The family would like to give special thanks to all of Lisa's amazing caregivers over the past three years, including: Hospice of the Valley, ALS Arizona, Dr. Ladha's team at Barrows Neurological Institute, and private nurse, Mrs. Stacy Johns. Above all, the family gives thanks for the constant care and devotion provided by her husband, Tom, who never left her side.

Memorial gifts may be made to ALS Arizona.
