Larry Labudde Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hansen Mortuary Chapel - Phoenix on Feb. 2, 2026.
I, Larry Gene Labudde, 82, was born on August 19, 1943 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The second son of Vernon and Jean (Haynes) Labudde. I was preceded in death by my older brother Dennis, an infant and my younger sister Nancy, an infant and my parents. I graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1961 and attended Purdue University and Wisconsin State University Oshkosh. Due to financial and academic difficulties in the fall of 1965, I joined the United States Navy. They offered me electronics training which resulted in the equivalent of an associate degree in electronics technology. I did my first deployment to Vietnam in the summer of 1966 followed by two more deployments in 1967 1968 and 1969. I served aboard three three different ships during that time. I was a Fire Control Technician Guns and responsible for the 5 inch gun system aboard these ships during that time. I received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal (with 6 stars), the Vietnam Campaign Medal and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. This was over a period of 22 months in Vietnam plus one month in North Korea for an international crisis. I was discharged honorably in December of 1969.

For various reasons after the war, I decided to settle in Los Angeles, California. I was given the opportunity to be employed by RCA computer systems on their big main frame computers. They gave me extensive electronic training, which included going to Florida one year later for more training. During that time in Florida, I met a sister from our Mansfield, Ohio Church, who testified to me of her faith in Christ Jesus. That testimony with her chaste conduct and faith in Christ Jesus convicted me of my sinful state. Upon completion of my training in Florida, I returned home to California and began attending the Pico Rivera Christian Apostolic - Nazarene (our sister church) and was baptized there 6 months later.

Sister Kathie Baumann and I were married shortly thereafter and so began a family life in Christ Jesus. That life was blessed by two children, Heather and Brandon. After living in California and Ohio for about 10 years, we moved to Arizona in the early 1980s. After about 10 years, we began attending the Apostolic Christian Church America of Phoenix and have been there ever since. It has been a blessing to serve Christ as a family in the church of Phoenix with my family of brothers and sisters.

By the way, I did return to college and received my Bachelor of Science degree in 1987.

Surviving are my children, Heather (Todd) Hinrichsen and Brandon (Jodi Hohulin) Labudde, both of Phoenix. Also my grandchildren, Matthias and Ava Hinrichsen and Josephine, Nathan and Adam Labudde.

I am very thankful for the love of my family and my church family. And, thankful for the love and hope that I have in Christ Jesus. May God bless all of you and keep you in his perfect peace and hope of that new heaven and new earth.

Praying that Larry's family can find peace in our Lord Jesus during these times of hurt. I learned to know Larry when he hosted our A.C. Church Veitnam Reunion a few years age. I had a nice visit with him a couple of years later at the reunion in Elgin IL. I'm going to look forward to another visit some day.

We are saddened to learn of Larry's death. We were blessed to know him through our son Ben and through the Vietnam reunions. May the Lord comfort you through a blessed hope of life eternal.

Our sympathy to the family of a Brother in faith and a fellow Vietnam veteran. We learned to know and appreciate Larry when he attended our Vietnam reunions. It was obvious that he was a sincere and dedicated follower of His Lord and Savior who has now welcomed him home.
