Lisa Anne Kisling went home to Christ on June, 23, 2025, surrounded by family and her husband Scott "Butch" Kisling by her side after a fierce battle with cancer. True to her nature, she died when she was ready. Born on August 14, 1965, to Dick and Bonnie Willhelm, she was a lifelong resident of Lander.
A beloved Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Advocate, Nurturer and Friend she lived her life on her own terms. Lisa spent her childhood on her grandparents' family ranch, camping with her family, or always the adventurer with her dad arrowhead hunting in the Red Desert. She had to grow up fast as a young mother and spend a few years with two young boys before meeting the love of her life Butch, who she married on March 9, 1990. Butch became the father to her children that every child deserves. For over 30 years, she and Butch opened their home to numerous foster children who truly became family.
She loved to quilt, and spend time with her children and grandchildren. Her love language was food preparation, and rarely did her children come home from college or to visit when she wasn't cooking or baking something. She later fulfilled her dream of going to law school and becoming a lawyer to fiercely advocate for the underdog and less fortunate members of society. In the end she won the battle with cancer by living each day on her terms and not letting cancer dictate how she lived. She fought it and never gave up hope.
She wanted little fanfare when she left this earth but will forever be remembered for her genuine love, perseverance, hard headedness, and faith. Always strong in her faith, she lived by Jeremiah 29:11, "'For I know the plans that I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.'" She never gave up on her belief in God's plan for her. She has gone home, and there is no more cancer or pain; she is at peace.
She is survived by her husband Butch Kisling, Parents Dick and Bonnie Wilhelm, sister Christina "Dawn" Willhelm, sons Jeremy (Alicia) Kisling, Dustin Kisling, Hayden Starrett, daughter Kaylee Sorrelle, grandchildren Brecken, Evie, and Remy Kisling. Chris West (Jamie Simmons) was also like a son to her. Her family would like to send heartfelt gratitude to the Staff, Nurses and Doctors of Huntsman and St. John's Oncology Center for the care they provided, particularly Dr. Melissa Cohen. Her family would like to thank the staff at Enhabit Hospice in Lander, particularly Nurse Kali Mazurie for the care, humor and compassion she gave in the end. Also, mom would want gratitude expressed to Cody Woodward, her lifelong dear friend, for being there through this hard time and keeping the ship upright through this battle.
You will not be forgotten Mom. Your absence leaves a void in our heart, but your memories fill that space.
In lieu of flowers please make any donations to the Huntsman Cancer Center or St. John's Oncology program in her memory.
A Funeral Service will be at 1:30pm, Friday, July 11, 2025 in the Chapel of Mount Hope, Hudson's Funeral Home, 680 Mount Hope Drive, Lander, Wyoming 82520. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
