It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Lisa Jeanine Miller nee Schwend on August 25, 2025 at the age of 67 years.
She was born on August 6th 1958 to Charles and Marietta Schwend (Read) in Torrance, California. Lisa grew up in Florissant, MO and graduated from McCluer North High School.
Lisa will always be remembered for her work ethic, caring nature, willingness to lend a hand, her quirky sense of humor, and determination to make memories. She could always find a way to turn an ordinary day into an adventure. Lisa loved hiking, kayaking, fishing, traveling, crafting, and yard sales. But more than anything, she loved being a grandmother. You could always find her telling stories, sharing pictures, and boasting about any one of her many grandchildren.
Lisa and her former husband Bill Miller (Warrenton) raised 5 children of their own as well as her youngest brother-in-law whom they raised as their own after the passing of his parents. Of her 5 children, she was graced with 20 wonderful grandchildren to date who came to know her as "Memaw Lisa".
Lisa is survived by her 5 children, Bill (Jennifer) Miller of Jonesburg, Casey (Jen) Miller of Truxton, Sam (Jocelyn) Miller of Puxico, Jake (Morgan) Miller of Green Castle, and Carly (Garrett) Davolt of Jonesburg. Her three brothers, Phil Schwend of Wabasha, MN, Mike (Mary Jo) Schwend of Kirksville, and Norman (Jan) Schwend of St Louis along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father Charles Schwend, her mother Marietta Schwend ( Read) and her youngest brother-in-law Byron Lester Miller. (Warrenton)
Lisa loved spoiling her grandkids. From birthday cards to bonfires with s'mores, or nature walks to surprise "thrift store" shopping sprees, and cheering them on at ballgames and school functions, she loved every minute. Making memories was her favorite thing to do.
Lisa's life was full of love, adventure, and excitement. Her career path held many titles, from struggling waitress, to a successful saleswoman and much more. However, most would come to know her for the genuine love and passion she had for Childcare. Lisa's passion for children extended from her home to the community. She took great pride in running a successful daycare business out of their home for many years where she loved and cared for countless wonderful children in the community creating lifelong friendships and fond memories. She maintained those relationships well beyond the daycare and loved to check in and see how "Memaw's kids" were growing and succeeding in life.
Along with her love of family, Lisa held a special place in her heart for the "Northwoods". Stemming from her childhood family vacations living the "cabin life" in Northern Wisconsin where she spent countless summers. She loved to watch and listen to the sounds of the loons, hear the water rushing over the rocks down the creeks and rivers, and watch the bald eagles soar.
Lisa had a deep and personal relationship with God. She was an active and devoted member of the Warrenton Christian Church. She loved volunteering in the Nursery and helping with church fundraising efforts.
Lisa will be dearly missed by so many. The lives and hearts she touched, memories made, and stories will live on forever.
"May we raise children who love the unloved things The dandelions, the worms, & spiderlings Children who sense the rose needs the thorn & run into windswept days the same way they turn towards sun And when they're grown & someone has to speak for those who have no voice, may they draw upon that wilder bond, those days of tending tender things and be the ones"
