Lissa Carter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Myrtle Beach Funeral Home - Myrtle Beach on Feb. 2, 2026.
Lissa Davis Carter, beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished stepmother, treasured friend, and faithful servant of God, entered her eternal rest on January 28, 2026. Born on October 3, 1958, in Conway, South Carolina, Lissa remained a lifelong resident of her beloved hometown-a community she held close to her heart and served with grace, compassion, and purpose. She passed peacefully in the hospital, with her loving husband, Timothy Carter, and a few dear friends by her side, their presence reflectingthe deep and meaningful relationships she nurtured throughout her life.

Lissa was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey L. Davis; her mother, Margaret I. Davis; and her brother, Lee Davis. She is survived by her children and stepchildren-Jamie H. Gamble, Jason S. Gamble, Nancy V. Bland, Amber M. McGhee, Allison Moore, Brooke O'Neill Carter, Kenneth D. Carter, and Kelly N. Carter-and by her eleven grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Lissa was a proud member of the 1975 Conway High School Honors Society and devoted 20 years of service as an assistant in the district office of Horry County Schools, where she was admired for her kindness, dedication, and strong work ethic. She also served proudly as a South Carolina Peer Specialist, offering compassion, understanding, and support to those seeking stability and hope.

In 2019, Lissa met the love of her life, Timothy Carter. Their hearts quickly aligned in both love and shared purpose, and they were married on April 25, 2021, beginning a beautiful chapter devoted not only to one another but also to serving others. Together, Lissa and Tim poured themselves wholeheartedly into the recovery ministry he founded, Sonshine Recovery Ministries. Having been in recovery herself for 32 years, Lissa brought a depth of understanding, compassion, and lived experience that made her a guiding light to many. She held numerous certificates in education and recovery, continually strengthening her ability to walk alongside others on their journey. Lissa served as a sponsor to countless individuals, offering steady guidance, unwavering encouragement, and Christ-centered hope. Through their tireless work, they helped countless individuals find a path to recovery and discover that all things are possible with Jesus Christ-a calling she deeply loved and lived with passion, humility, and purpose.

A celebration of Lissa's life will be held on February 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Beach Church, 557 George Bishop Parkway, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579.

Lunch will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Sonshine Recovery Ministries to continue Lissa's heartfelt mission of helping those seeking recovery, restoration, and hope through Jesus Christ.
