The world shines a little dimmer without the bright light of Liza Dawn Saunders, who passed away on October 29, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on June 20, 1970, in Port Royal, South Carolina, Liza filled every chapter of her life with love, laughter, and adventure.
To know Liza was to love her. She had a heart big enough to hold the whole world and a smile that could lift anyone's spirit. Her life was one of movement and magic - from the rugged beauty of Fairbanks, Alaska, a place that always felt like home, to her final years in Oklahoma, where she was surrounded by family, friends, and the people she adored most.
Liza's greatest joy was her people. She was a devoted mother to Michael Bishop, Farrah Buck, Kayla Bishop, and Peter Saunders; a loving partner to Josh Wells; and a cherished daughter to Michael Moore and Norma Downey. She was also "Grandma Liza" to four grandchildren who brought her endless joy and pride.
She was happiest with the sun on her face, the wind in her hair, and the water nearby. Whether she was at the lake, on the road to a new adventure, or swapping stories with a stranger-turned-friend, Liza radiated warmth and joy. Her friends often called her a gypsy soul - loyal, loving, spontaneous, and endlessly full of life. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, welcomed, and loved.
A viewing will be held at Alternatives Cremation and Funeral Service in Oklahoma City on Friday, November 7, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow on Saturday, November 8, from 4:30–11:00 p.m. at The Chicken Shack in Arcadia, where family and friends are invited to share stories, laughter, and memories of the incredible woman who made life so colorful.
Liza's spirit will forever dance in the sunshine, ripple across the water, and live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Her legacy is one of joy, love, and unapologetic zest for life - a beautiful reminder to live fully, love deeply, and never stop chasing the adventure.
