In Loving Memory of Lloyd Michael Brown

("Big Mike")

June 15, 1960 - January 2, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Lloyd Michael Brown, known affectionately to all as "Big Mike." A man of immense stature and even greater spirit, Mike departed this world leaving behind a legacy of laughter, service, and an open heart that knew no boundaries.

Born on June 15, 1960, Mike was the fourth child of Matthew A. Brown, Sr. and Loretta J. Brown. A proud graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Mike went on to attend West Virginia State University. During this time, he was employed as a Medical Assistant in the Emergency Room of Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC). He dedicated a significant portion of his life to the service and protection of others by enlisting in the United States Army. Big Mike retired from the United States Army as a Medical Specialist/Evacuation Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), a role that highlighted his discipline and his innate desire to care for those in need. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to safety and community as a Private Security Officer. In every role he held, Mike was a protector-a man who provided a sense of security and peace to everyone around him.

Big Mike was a gentle giant in every sense of the word. He possessed a rare wisdom that he shared freely, often delivered with the perfect touch of humor. He was a natural comedian who could find the light in any situation and turn a room of strangers into a circle of friends within minutes. Beyond his biological ties, he served as a vital father figure to many, offering guidance and a safe harbor for anyone navigating life's storms.

Big Mike was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Matthew A. Brown, Sr. and Loretta J. Brown; his brother, Matthew A. Brown, Jr.; his sister, Michele A. Brown; and his niece, Sha'lyn Brown.

His legacy and spirit will be kept alive by his second mother, Carol Brown of Charleston, WV; his devoted sisters, Stephanie B. Brown of Charleston, WV, Cassandra Brown of Institute, WV, Dewana Brown of Columbus, OH, Teresa Brown of Charleston, WV, Monica R. (Mustapha) Brown-Butler of Pickerington, OH, and Famica Brown of Charleston, WV; and his brothers, Michael A. (Ronnie Caprice) Brown of Colorado Springs, CO, and Michael Kenyale Brown of Charleston, WV.

Mike's influence continues through his cherished nieces, Calinda (Solomon) Wright, Lauren Brown, Ieasha Armistead, Jala Brown, Marisa Brown, Ny-Tahau Brown, Cierra Brown, Dashaunna Pope, and Kendra Bailey; and his nephews, Sheldon Brown, Ian Brown, Adrian "AJ" Pope, Jr., Dominique Pope, Israel Wright, Tyren Taylor, Sherrod Brown, Mustapha Butler, Jr., Matthew Butler, and Mason Butler. His heart also belonged to his lifelong friend, Pamela Jessup, and his surrogate children, LaMesha Dyess, Sharaya Dyess, An'gel Mitchell, and Mitch Mitchell. He leaves behind a host of beloved friends, acquaintances, and all those whose lives were touched by his kindness and wit.

Big Mike taught us that true strength lies in gentleness and that a well-timed joke can heal a weary heart. Though he has left our sight, the echoes of his laughter and the depth of his wisdom will remain with us forever.
