Lloyd Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thomas Funeral Home - Centerville on Jan. 9, 2026.
Lloyd I. Brown, 91 of Centerville passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville.
Lloyd was born July 27, 1934, to Ira A. and Nellie (Small) Brown in Putnum County, Missouri.
Lloyd attended Seymour Community Schools and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1953. He served in several countries around the globe in telecommunications and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal before his Honorable Discharge in 1957.
He married Rosemary Parsons on January 5, 1958 in Centerville, Iowa and to this union they were blessed with three children: Steven Lloyd, Laura Jean and Jeffrey Nelson.
Lloyd and Rosemary made their home in Centerville where he established and co-owned a mechanic shop, then worked as a mechanic at Norris Motors, eventually working at and retiring from the maintenance department at Union Carbide/Viskase in February 1997 after over 30 years.
After retirement, Lloyd and Rosemary spent several winters in South Texas; something they enjoyed tremendously and looked forward to annually. Lloyd enjoyed playing cards, bluegrass & country music jams, hunting, playing pool, and tinkering on the farm, however his most cherished activity was keeping up with the activities of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lloyd is survived by his children: Steve (Marchelle) Brown and Jeff Brown, all of Centerville, and Laura Brown of Brandon, Iowa; grandchildren: Brandi (Jesse) Blum, Justin (Jacqueline) Brown, Josh (Jennifer) Brown, Danielle (Josh) Kratofil, Kaitlyn (Nathan) Cagna, Amanda (Richard) Ainesworth, Tyler (Susan) Moore, and Tarah (Matt) Kovacevich, and his great-grandchildren; Dicen Blum, Braden, Riley and Hannah Brown, Coltin, Trenadie and Kynten Brown, Tralyn, Cory, Kinzer and Callie Kratofil, Elizabeth Cagna, Nolan and Rosalie Ainesworth, Izabelle, Maddux and Hayden Moore, and Matty and Jaxie Kovacevich; as well as nieces, a nephew and their families, of whom he thought the world of!
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; his parents; sister, Louella Ellsworth; brother, Larry Brown; two sisters-in-law, Venetah Poffenberger and LeVoy Gragg; a brother-in-law, Wendell Parsons; a great-grandson, Qwinen Kratofil; and a niece, Shirley Powell-Carter.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00PM on Wednesday, January 14 at Thomas Funeral Home in Centerville with Larry Bettis officiating. A visitation will be held, with family present, prior to the service from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A public burial with full military rites will be held on Thursday, January 15 at 12:00 PM at the Southlawn Cemetery in Seymour.
