Lloyd Gordon, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on April 12, 2025, in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was 67 years old. Born on June 16, 1957, in Quitman, Mississippi, Lloyd was the beloved son of the late Lloyd Gordon, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Gordon.
Lloyd grew up in a close-knit Southern community, where he learned early the value of hard work, family, and kindness. After graduating from high school, he joined Job Corps, where he explored and mastered various trades and skills-from carpentry and mechanics to electrical work-skills that would serve him well throughout his life. He was a lifelong learner and problem-solver, always ready to lend a hand or fix what was broken.
For many years, Lloyd worked as a professional truck driver, a career that took him across the country and allowed him to meet people from all walks of life. He often shared stories of the places he'd seen and the people he met along the way, never failing to find humor, joy, or a life lesson in each journey. He took great pride in his work and found freedom on the open road.
Lloyd was more than just a hard worker-he was a family man, a loyal friend, and someone who lived life with a full heart. He was known for his warm smile, infectious laughter, and his incredible ability to make everyone feel welcome. Lloyd never met a stranger. Whether he was cooking up a good Southern meal, playing cards, cracking jokes, or telling stories, he made those around him feel seen and loved.
He had a special place in his heart for children and took joy in spoiling his grandchildren and the young ones in the family. His gentle nature, patience, and playful spirit made him a favorite among the kids, and his presence will be dearly missed at every family gathering.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Edna Gordon, with whom he shared many years of love and companionship.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Ashley Gordon Hartley, and her husband Marcus; his sisters, Alice Jones and her husband Willie, and Gail Squaire and her husband Willie; his beloved grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and lifelong friends.
Lloyd's legacy of love, generosity, and resilience will live on in all who were lucky enough to know him. He leaves behind a family that is stronger because of his presence and a circle of friends who will forever miss his big heart and bigger hugs.
A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held in Mississippi at a later date, where friends and family will gather to honor a life well lived and a man deeply loved.
