Lloyd Gene Liles, 95, of Eldon, IA passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Manor Care Heath Center in Davenport, IA. As were Gene's wishes his body has been cremated. Burial will be in the Iowaville Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions in Gene's honor may be directed to the Eldon Assembly of God Church. Friends may leave online condolences at www.cranstonfamilyfuneralhome.com.
Lloyd Gene Liles was born on May 12, 1927 in Floris, IA to Charles and Caroline Hewitt Liles. He was one of sixteen children in his family. He grew up understanding the value of hard work. Gene entered the United States Army where he began working with the construction unit of the Army Corps of Engineers. It is here where his love of heavy equipment began. Gene met and fell in love with Helen Roth at a bible camp. The two were married and became the loving parents to three children. When he returned from his service he worked on a dragline at the coal mines in Missouri. He then moved back to Wapello County working for Ottumwa Brick & Tile for over 20 years before moving on to Estle and DeLong and eventually retiring from the Wapello County Secondary Roads. Gene's only hobby was work. He was good at anything that he could do with his hands, from operator to mechanic. He was a devoted member of the First Assembly of God Church in Eldon and found comfort in his faith. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen; an infant son, Steven; nine brothers, Albert, Dewight, Frank, Pardon, Everett, Emett, Bill, David, and Paul and four sisters, Sarah Talbott, Mary Liles, Rachel Greene, and Ruth Boliou.
Left to honor his memory are his two children, Martin (Audrey) Liles of Muscatine, IA and Marcia Essary of Texas; five grandchildren, Doug, Matthew, David, Travis, and Trenton; six great grandchildren, Shelby, Calvin, Nora, Logan, Zoey, and Kyra; a great great grandson, Ryker; two sisters, Pauline Lind and Naomi Grunwald, as well as many extended family and friends.
