Lloyd Mears, 76, of Albany, GA, died January 23, 2025 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be held Monday at 2:00 pm at Avalon Church. Rev. Debbie Cone will officiate.

Lloyd was born in Colquitt, GA on August 21, 1948 to Curtis and Bessie Mears. He graduated from Miller County High School in 1966 and joined The United States Air Force. Lloyd served his Country for four years, one year in Vietnam. Upon his return, he met his future wife, Betty Frantz in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1970. They were married on January 31, 1971 and moved to Albany, GA in September of 1971.

Lloyd continued his education at Albany Junior College and was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base Albany for thirty-seven years. He was a faithful member of Avalon Church where he was a Lay Leader, Head Usher, President of The Men’s Group and member of The Greatful Hearts Sunday School Class. Lloyd also played on the Church’s Softball Team and later coached. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Mears.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Mears of Albany, GA, his daughter, Tina (Mike) Purvis of Albany, GA, his brothers, Tim (Suzanne) Mears of Lee County, GA, James Michael “Mickey” Mears of McDonough, GA and Don Mears of Albany, GA, Grandchildren Kayla Purvis, Luke Purvis and Caroline Grace Johnson of Americus, GA.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm before the service at Avalon Methodist Church.
