Lloyd Dewey Rinks

Lloyd Dewey Rinks was born on August 22, 1932, and died on April 28, 2024, in Santa Ana, California. His earthly life spanned 91-2/3 years. Lloyd was the sixth of eight children born to Dewey and Annabelle Rinks, who were sharecroppers in northeast Arkansas. In 1939, when Lloyd was seven years old, his family rented a pickup truck and moved to California, and they would move another 18 times over 11 years in the San Diego area. Lloyd graduated from San Diego High School in 1950 and then attended and graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, where he met Frances Burkhalter. The two were married in 1956 and had two sons: John in 1960 and Tom in 1962.
Between 1955 and 1970, Lloyd worked a number of jobs, including as camp director at Green Oak Ranch, youth director at San Gabriel Union Church, assistant pastor at Arcadia Union Church, and senior pastor for nine years at Gardena Bible Church. From 1970 to 1973, he served as chaplain at Harbor General Hospital in Torrance before taking the role of associate pastor and interim senior pastor at Grace Brethren Church in Long Beach, where he ministered from 1974 to 1986. Lloyd was then called to Calvary Church, Santa Ana, where he served from 1987 to 1990 before finishing his ministry as senior chaplain at Town & Country Manor from 1993 to 2007.
Throughout his life, Lloyd served on multiple boards, including Pine Valley Bible Camp in Vista, the California Association of Senior Adults, and Mission to Asia (a pastor training center in India). Throughout their life, Lloyd and Fran Rinks were faithful financial supporters of many Christian missionaries around the globe. Lloyd enjoyed traveling with family and friends, telling jokes, watching boxing, collecting antique clocks and glass animals, driving nice cars, trimming his rose garden, and playing multiple sports, including ping pong, swimming, billiards, baseball, and basketball. Lloyd was an outstanding basketball player who played on missionary teams throughout Asia and dominated local church leagues well into his forties.
Lloyd's wife of 62 years, Fran, preceded his departure to heaven in 2018. Lloyd is survived by two sons, John and Tom, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
